The
Experience

Energetic owners here dreamt of finding an isolated farm to breed horses. They fell for the ruins of this big old house and mill, in a secluded valley of the Sierra Espadán Natural Park and have totally rebuilt it. The peace and seclusion are a tonic and it’s a fabulous area for walking. Christiane, from Germany originally, is a wonderfully engaging host and will happily organise bike hire, furnish you with trail maps and rustle up fuel if you’d like to use the barbecue, with its great terrace views. There are well-equipped kitchens too – handy as it’s a slow 10k drive to the nearest restaurant. You can also help with the horses, pick olives and vegetables, be at the coast in 40 minutes, explore un-touristy Moorish villages, use the games area and sauna, arrange a massage… and simply relax, perhaps by the pool or the lake. There’s masses of communal space; a choice of breakfast spots and a vast downstairs sitting area with original stone arches and three fireplaces. Good beds in large bedrooms – three suites share a terrace – and nice towels in practical bathrooms A B&B/self-catering hybrid ideal for the outdoorsy.
