The
Experience

Step across a small bridge to this peaceful, child-free place. Bordered by two quiet rivers, what was once a medieval mill is now an intimate guest house near the stunning Galician coast. It only has four rooms, meaning Antón can give you all his attention. He and Luz are a friendly, thoughtful couple who want guests to relax and take their time, fitting chromotherapy lighting in one bedroom and making a cosy reading room with water flowing past at eye level. The granite house stood abandoned for decades before they took it on, creating their dream hotel and building their own house next door. They saved details such as the original bread oven and low windows between the former cattle byre and the warm, log-heated sitting room, then furnished it all in a gentle new-old style. Rooms, named after phases of the moon, showcase Antón’s fine carpentry against old stone walls and wooden ceilings, while private corners, running water, and occasional wildlife make the big green garden a space for rest and contemplation. Natural wonders abound: glorious beaches, waterfalls, eucalyptus forests; historic buildings, too.

Reviews

In the times we are living now, in the 21st century, everything is depersonalized in tourism. However, a small village resists the enemies: globalization and “all-in packages”. This village is in Viveiro and is comprised by two Galicians, Luz and Antón. This village is a place to take care of your soul. This village is also a perfect place to rest. A haven of peace where you could feel appreciated, loved and important. This village is like a therapy. There is a nice chat every night with herb liqueur and chocolates. But all above all, this village is rest and attention. This village is CASA DO

Local points of interest from Antón Vázquez Rodriguez

  • Souto da Retorta: also known as the eucalyptus grove of Chavín, we can find some of the tallest and widest eucalyptus trees on the continent, such as the famous avó or “grandfather” tree planted in around 1880, some 67 m tall and 10.5 m in circumference.
  • Pozo da Ferida: a magic place with a 30 m. waterfall.
  • Viveiro: This seafaring town, which has carried the title of ‘city’ since the nineteenth century, has the most important historic centre in all of Galicia’s northern coast.
  • Esta de Bares: Reaching into the sea in order to divide the waters of the Atlantic from those of the Bay of Biscay, Estaca de Bares is the northernmost point of the entire Iberian Peninsula.
  • As Catedrais beach: Throughout the centuries, the mighty waters of the Cantabric sea have chiselled this whim of nature. This is why it is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
  • Garita de Herbeira-San Andres de Teixido: these places are famous for providing unbeatable views over Europe's highest cliffs, which soar to over 600 m. and the the most magical sanctuary of Galicia.
