For simple pleasures like listening to birdsong and dabbling in the stream, small farm life at El Moli is a pleasure to dip into. The Vila’s caring approach to visitors, animals and the land is a balm. They have sheep, two gentle Spanish mastiffs, a calm white horse, and their beautiful forested surroundings are a wildlife refuge area. Ernest’s been restoring, maintaining and building here since 1979 and is seriously good with wood (he built the Adirondak armchairs and indoor lamps – also using osprey eggs…). You choose between two small stone lodgings attached to the main building and a newish, bigger, wooden cabin with a green plant roof. They all have something of a well-kept mountain refuge feel, nothing fussy, though all have open fires, heating, (WiFi & TV even). Furniture, kitchens and bathrooms are simply practical, walls and ceilings wooden-boarded. Each has its own shaded outdoor area with barbecue, forest and creek views. It’s half an hour’s pleasant walk to a restaurant, the same to drive to Gerona airport. Hike Montseny Natural Park, visit historic Vic and its outdoor market. Stay put and ponder.
