The noble old farmhouse sits alone in its fields with pretty streams and woodland beyond, and exceptional views – of Montseny and the foothills of the Pyrenees. The owners’ house shares the family farm, 300 yards up the road. Inside are three apartments – one huge, two smaller – beautifully renovated and thoughtfully configured so that you meet the other guests only at the pool. Interiors feel minimalist, rustic and architect-designed. Be charmed by ancient fireplaces and well-equipped kitchens, eco-safe paints and mosquito candles, stunning stone door frames and super-rustic walls – and amazing see-saw stairs to mezzanines (exciting for older children). Fabrics on sofas and antique beds range from natural to plum to lime green. The owner leaves you a welcome pack of organic produce, and bikes for the Via Verde trails… cool off back home in that salt-purified pool. If all-day trails aren’t your thing, then the interesting Parc Art is three miles up the road. Charming old Girona isn’t much further, teeming with cafés, restaurants and bars, notable for its cathedral with the world’s broadest gothic nave.
