A generous eco-gourmet breakfast is promised! Tomatoes from the garden, honey from the hives, Grandmama’s pinenut sponge cake, the estate’s olive oil. Once vines were grown here – note the ancient wine jars; now they harvest olives, for family and guests. Inside, all is Catalan-cosy and warmly designed. Walls and beams are rustic, beds are vast, linen is superb and each window displays a lush view stretching to the horizon. The wonderful donkey-driven olive press still stands in the sitting room, alongside fat sofas and a big open fire. Outside, the grassed Grand Terrace – once the threshing floor – has a slab of rustic table and inspirational views. The multi-level garden conceals tucked-away seating corners and a serenely glassy pool, while the surrounding forest is delineated by trails and framed by farms (a goat farm included, a must-visit). A member of the very civilised Roca family will meet and greet you on arrival but do book in advance: summer weekends are devoted to weddings and they may not have space. Come for the Peace & Wellbeing weekend, or a class in meditation, yoga, cookery. Special.
