The Experience

One of our favourites: an 18th-century mansion that has become a luxurious but unstuffy, family-run hotel. Local hardwoods and earthy colours have been introduced with a flourish: find smartly dressed beds, gleaming parquet, a Deco rug, contemporary art. Each room is different, with deep coloured stuccoed walls, big old rafters and Bauhaus or Glasgow School furniture; the Tower Room is built for romance with its own roof terrace. There’s a soaring steel sculpture in the courtyard, a chic outdoor space with original wraparound wooden balcony transformed by terracotta walls, white armchairs and potted plants. And a restful sitting room with lots of books on art and photography, candlelit dinner by the pool, and breakfast as late as you want. You can swim seriously in the saltwater outdoor pool on the front, or plunge into the natural rock pools with their dramatic backdrop of mountains rising steeply behind the old town. Wander the higgledy-piggledy narrow streets to find a superb public garden with sculptures, and a square with two interesting old churches.

Local points of interest from Dominique Carayón Sabater

  • The Buenavista Golf course is just 8km from the Hotel for golf lovers, where you can play all year round thanks to our wonderful climate. Special discounts for our clients.
  • The enormous mountain range that embraces Garachico sets the tone of the beauty of its natural environment. A walk through open and lush areas, tracks where you can breathe in the peace and quiet, routes with a flavour of pure sea and land.
  • A seafaring town always has good fish on offer and Garachico is no exception: parrot fish, combers, dentex, bream, moray eels, etc. are all typical species of the waters of Garachico.
  • Teide National Park: You simply must not miss this wonderful National Park. The other-worldly landscapes here will leave you speechless. The pure, clean air of Spain's highest peak
  • The Historic Quarter of La Laguna:The city has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999 and is considered a “unique example of an unwalled colonial city”.
  • La cueva del Viento: Cueva del Viento is also known for its unique geomorphology: its network of galleries is arranged in three superimposed levels, a phenomenon that has not been recorded in any other place in the world.
