Pollensa is a wonderful old town, on the east of the island seven kilometres from the sea. It sits at the foothills of the spectacular and rugged Serra de Tramuntana – great for outdoorsies! The old centre – mostly car free – is a jumble of cafes, restaurants and bars, galleries and bustle. Your little house is up a narrow cul de sac off a busy street; don’t expect parking, you’re better off on foot. Inside is sweet and simple (a little sitting room with two sofas and a fireplace) and will entirely suit two couples or a family who want to have outdoor adventures. A step takes you up to the pinewood kitchen and dining area (equipped for holiday cooking but not fancy) or you can have a lazy lunch outside – in the courtyard through the patio doors. Take picnics and swimming gear to the stunning Cap Formentor (pines, dunes, soft sands, turquoise sea) or check out the resort of Alcudia. Come home to big air-conditioned bedrooms at the top of the stone stairs (not for oldies), all whitewashed walls, chunky beams and tiled floors. The main bedroom is at the peaceful back, with a small patio off its bathroom that leads to a sunny roof terrace – a secluded spot from which to sip a beer and gaze across the rooftops.
