Hotel Rural Arredondo

Celorio, Asturias

Tranquil hotel dramatically set between the Picos and the Cantabrian coast. Simple rooms have quirky touches, sheep and cows graze outside

16 rooms

Rooms sleep 2 – 3

Feisty bulls once romped around this sunny 18th-century farmhouse; now it’s a charming small hotel amid a sea of green. Décor reveals simplicity and comfort with a splash of Ana’s quirky retro style: split-colour walls, a 60s cigarette machine, decorative bottles and old ships’ lamps. There’s a playroom glasshouse, a lover’s bench in a two-wheeled cart, and morning papers for a lazy breakfast on the shady terrace (if the weather breaks, a conservatory too). Dine in on home-reared organic meat and fresh farm eggs – sheep and Asturian cows graze the estate – or head to Llanes for seafood and nightlife. Organic cider is made each autumn in the on-site press – watch, if you’re there, or simply taste and buy. Bedrooms are generous, with local artist-designed wrought iron beds; suites have an open fireplace, terrace and hydromassage baths. Wake to birdsong and sunlight. Between the high Picos de Europa and the lush Cantabrian coast, cushioned by tranquillity yet so close to beaches, hikes, main roads, the city of Santander… Arredondo is all things to all people, and Ana’s easy generosity shines through.

There is easy access to the motorway here, but you would think you're in the middle of nowhere. The house and rooms are large and comfortable and you are encouraged to explore extensive grounds. Ana is a knowledgeable host who can help with bookings for tickets if needed. Very peaceful rural location.
