The
Experience

Little has changed in centuries in this beautiful sierra, wild yet carefully tended and a paradise for riders and walkers. Welcome to Arabs Farm, 75 acres of sweet chestnut trees, olives and cork, where your discreet but hospitable English hosts live with horses, a donkey and various livestock. Sheep and Pata Negra pigs graze in the cork groves…by night, perhaps a wild boar fleeing the headlights of your car. It is a blissful spot for an out-of-the-way holiday: nature surrounds you, you have your own lovely pool, and a village (with good restaurants) two miles away. The two cottages lie at opposite ends of the farm in sweet seclusion, each summer-cool with whitewashed walls, rosy terracotta floors and small windows, each single-storey, each with a terrace for barbecues and views. The décor is charming and simple, there are books, welcome baskets and wood-burning stoves. You could stay all week and not visit the stores: the Farm Shop has it all! Make the most of lamb and pork, jamon serrano and chorizo along with organic vegetables from the farm, wine, eggs, olive oil and Hermione’s tapas – a marvel.

Reviews

Blissful el Moro. Each morning, awoke to the sounds of cukoos calling in the sweet chestnut groves to breakfast on newly laid eggs, care of Nick & Hermione's free-range chickens. The farm is organic and the produce available from the little farm shop ranges from home produced lamb and pork, to bottled peaches, jams, chutneys, and the freshest of salad and seasonal vegetables. Nick & Hermione also provide a three-course dinner twice a week for their self-catering guests and we tucked in with gusto. We can't wait to return to el Moro and to experience more of this beautiful area.

Location

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Hermione & Nick Tudor

  • Finca el Moro is a secluded working hill farm. Reached only by a rough track it has opened its doors to guests for the last 25 years, tucked away in a quiet corner of Andalucia bordering Portugal but only one hour from Seville. Cork, Chestnuts and Olives.
  • No TV but instead wonderful warm jasmine scented starry nights and there are Andalus horses grazing in the fields. Excellent riding country, broad wide tracks through the hills give far distant views of hill top castles of the ancient Moorish Caliphate.
  • Violetta, the donkey, takes children riding and she makes a unique 4WD shopping trolley on forays into the villages within walking distance of the farm. There is a tree house and a safari camp in the olive grove for an adventurous night under canvas
  • Wonderful riding on our andalus horses and the cottages are equipped with directions for a series of excellent walks through the hills visiting the "pueblos blancos of the sierra. Spring, a wonderful diversity of wild flowers, and autumn wild mushrooms.
  • 800 m above sea level the climate is delightful, never TOO hot even in summer. Seville is one hour away and Portugal 45 mins. Aracena is famous for its ham and sausages produced locally from the pigs that eat the acorns in the cork groves.
  • DON'T come here for a beach holiday we are 2 hours from the coast, but DO come here for rural peace and quiet, Riding, Walking, private swimming pools and starry barbeques on your cottage terrace with delicious fresh farm food from our shop.
