The Experience

This traditional Spanish farmhouse is hidden away up a track and is filled with original art, beautiful ceramics and rich fabrics. You’ll also find a huge library of books, films and music for every age so even if the outside palls there’s tons to occupy. The kitchen has all the basics for cooking and the owners leave you a bottle of their own rioja and a basket of fruit.

Bedrooms have French doors to balconies and terraces with panoramic views. Wander the pretty grounds among wildflower meadows, pomegranate and peach trees, groves of almond and olive. There are sunny courtyards and terraces shaded by wisteria so you can chase or scuttle away from the sun and choose where to barbecue for the evening light.

Stock up and settle in or explore the fabulous white villages in the mountains. Good beaches are a half-hour drive, Granada and Malaga close enough for a day trip. Return to dark sky status on your magical roof terrace.

Reviews

Firstly we meant to write this review as soon as we got home and forgot, sorry Shane & Bea! Unique accommodation, traditional Spanish open plan house with everything you could wish for at your fingertips! Shane and Bea were incredibly helpful, there was books galore and location was truly inspirational and beautiful. The pool and the view were something else, the sunsets were exceptional with the sun lasting late due to the pools location. Thank you Shane & Bea from Mike and Marie

Marie, Malvern

We had a wonderful stay in Villa Amapola. A beautiful villa, inside and out - with so many books and beautiful paintings. Shane and Bea were on hand without ever interfering, and were very helpful with recommendations. The private pool was perfect for hot days and long summer evenings. A very spacious and well-equipped kitchen, lots of different outdoor seating areas and tastefully decorated throughout. A real escape away from everyday life.

We've only been home two days and already look back on our stay at Villa Amapola with great nostalgia. The house itself is gorgeous and set in the most spectacular scenery. The wooden beams and doors, cool tiles, walls of books containing everything from Le Carré to Kafka, eclectic art and a fantastic kitchen combined homeliness and luxury. Bea and Shane have thought of everything. The raised pool offers starlit swimming and sightings of eagles, and our teenage son loved every minute there. We stayed during a heatwave but were still perfectly happy lazing around in such a special place.

Tess and Tim, Cambridge

House was so comfortable and well equipped both inside and out. The hosts were perfect, there and responsive when needed but also discreet. We had a lovely lovely time

Lily, London

My son and I enjoyed a wonderful stay at Villa Amapola. This place is truly heaven on earth, with incredible views, nice pool, and a lovely owner close by. Our only regret was not to be able to stay longer, as the week flew by so quickly in such a nice place.

Catherine, Belgium

We had the most amazing stay at Villa Amapola - its a beautiful, beautiful house filled with everything you need and more - the quality is fantastic and everything is so beautifully curated it makes for a really special place to be. The decor is stunning, Bea and Shane have great taste in art, decor and books too! The pool is gorgeous and really big, we spent so many days just relaxing, eating and hanging out in this special spot. It is a rural location, so be prepared to drive, but this also means its incredibly peaceful and the perfect spot to rest.

Anna, Aberfeldy

Beautiful, stylish house in a dramatic and somewhat isolated location! The pool was fabulous - and a must given the heat! A great luxury we used daily. Everything we needed was available in the villa, and the beach and markets, towns etc are fairly near for trips - as long as one is comfortable with some mountain roads! Shane & Bea were helpful & charming hosts. Highly recommended.

Lesley, London

Villa Ampola is an adventure from the moment you start to climb the mountain. It is nestled in the mountains surrounded by stunningly beautiful views. It is has everything you need for a restful stay, games, books and many talking points. The pool is amazing! Local beaches a drive away. Lots to explore. Shane and Bea are wonderful hosts, thank you.

Helen, Colchester

A wonderful week in a great house. Tastefully decorated and with all the amenities you could want, we could have spent the whole week around the pool enjoying the stunning views, had the house not been within easy reach of Granada, Malaga and Nerja. Thanks to Shane and Bea for helpful advice and a beautifully looked after property.

Villa Amapola is such a find! We’d really recommend anyone to go there. Shane and Bea were very communicative and helpful throughout the booking process, and offered additional help like suggesting car rental near the airport and providing toys for our 5 yr old. Their directions were very helpful for finding the house, and Shane met us when we arrived to settle us in. The house is gorgeous and had everything we needed. The bedrooms were very comfortable and the outside seating had amazing views. The pool is beautiful and very secure for children. We’ll definitely be back!

Caroline, Glasgow

This was our first holiday for 3 years and what a find! You're on top of the world at "Villa Amapola." We loved everything about it! Best do a big shop at the start of your stay as you won't want to leave once you get here. I have a feeling we'll be coming back!

Sue, Shaftesbury

Shush!….…I want to keep this one a secret.....for if I tell the true beauty of this place then I will find it difficult to revisit ... Say no more.

Sharon, BRIGHTON

Beautiful home, this villa was wonderful for our young family because the pool is 30 m or so up a steep gated path, meaning there was no chance our 1 & 4 yr olds could get to it alone, which can be a real worry when renting! Worth mentioning the path is steep, with steps, so not a realistic choice for guests with mobility issues. The views once you get there are incredible! The owners are lovely and have thought of everything, they were fairly present maintaining the flower pots etc, but generally the house has an excellent level of privacy and is far from other houses. Thank you Shane and Bea

Pippa, Brighton

Villa Amapola exceeded our expectations. It was an idyllic farmhouse property very well equipped with so many beautiful terraces and shady spots to sit in and just chill. We used the swimming pool and adjusted after a while to the temperature of the refreshing water. The outdoor barbecue was wonderful and the sunsets were truly spectacular. Shane and Bea were so helpful and attentive but also very discrete. They booked for us a wonderful guided walk by Kristina and they also arranged a surprise birthday meal for our daughter in Torre del Mar. A memorable and peaceful holiday . Thank you .

Cathy, Beverley, East Yorkshire

Our stay at Villa Amapola was idyllic. It is a traditional Spanish Villa with wonderful outdoor areas. The view out to Lake Vinuela and the mountains is exceptional. It’s position is peaceful and tranquil for total relaxation but close enough to easily access beautiful Andalusian towns. The local area is great for running, walking and cycling. The library of books is stunning The swimming pool was cold but exhilarating and great for family fun. The steps leading up to it make sure you’re fit by the end of the holiday. Shane and Bea we’re excellent hosts and couldn’t have been more helpful.

Gill, Manchester

We had a wonderful stay at Villa Amapola and couldn't have asked for more after what has been a very stressful time during lockdown. The hosts, Shane and Bea were very welcoming really going that extra mile with suggestions and advice on trips and great places to eat. Not only that they were always happy to assist with booking various venues. The accommodation had a family feel, lots of books and a kitchen kitted out ready for us to cook. We particularly enjoyed the outside space with amazing vistas and having a glorious pool to swim in everyday, all contributing to a very memorable visit.

Karen, London

We had a great and restful holiday at Amapola. It is a lovely place away from it all. Shane and Bea were great hosts. Would love to come back.

Jeremy, London

No exaggeration, visiting Villa Amapola was the best family holiday we've ever had. The location is breathtaking, the villa itself is lovely, and having a private pool in the Spanish heat is just wonderful! Our hosts were very friendly and helpful but never intruded on our privacy; and privacy is one thing you get in abundance at the villa, where you really do feel like you're in a world of your own. This does mean that going shopping or taking day trips requires a long drive, which can be daunting on those winding roads, but this was well worth it. The huge library of books is also a bonus!

Ben, Leeds

We had a really lovely stay at the villa. The pool is a very good size and has stunning reviews from it’s terrace. The villa itself is spacious and includes everything you could need, with many seating areas and lovely viewpoints. It’s rural setting allows you to relax, and after familiarising with the small roads once or twice you can easily find your way to and from the villa in daylight. There are many places of interest, including Granada’s Alhambra, Nerja Caves, Malaga and it’s many art galleries including Picasso and the Pompidou Centre as well as natural wonders such as El Torcal.

L/M, London

We had such a wonderful stay at Villa Amapola. The remote setting and views are spectacular. We had many happy evenings cooking together in the enormous kitchen and sitting out on the terrace, under the stars. We all loved the private swimming pool and enjoyed several excursions to the beach nearby. It's a place to enjoy a slower pace of life, to revive and restore you, true food for the soul.

Introducing

Shane & Bea Cormican

Bea and Shane moved here from the UK 20 years ago and have sympathetically renovated and extended this old farmhouse. Bea is an artist and has filled the house with original art, ceramics and antiques. They're also avid readers, hence the huge library.
