The
Experience

This is the sort of place a self-indulgent Bond villain would love – an imposing castle built into a rocky outcrop dominating the valley beneath, accessible via a single road that snakes up the steep hillside. It’s a building steeped in history: Roman foundations topped by a Moorish castillo, full of decorative flourishes like arches and patterned tiles that hark back to the glories of al-Andalus. The bedrooms revel in uncluttered luxury: tiled floors, cool white sheets, neutral colour schemes, the poshest rooms pushing the boat out with four posters and Persian rugs. Bathrooms are pleasingly large, and marble and polished stone are a common feature. When it comes to languid lounging, you’re spoilt for choice: will it be the nooks and crannies of the roof garden, the sunny terrace of the saltwater pool overlooking Monda, the cool comfy sitting rooms, the modern bar, or the light and airy epicurean restaurant? The latter specialises in delicious local organic produce at impressively reasonable prices, although in the unlikely event that it starts to pall, the tapas bars of the town are a two minute walk down the hill.

Reviews

Spent 6 nights here and can highly recommend this Hotel for a quiet break. The hotel is beautiful with lovely gardens and lots of seating areas all with stunning views. The food is exceptional and the staff were very helpful and friendly. We had a fabulous large room with a huge private terrace. Monda is a quiet village with a few bars and you would probably need a car. Will certainly return to this Hotel.

  • Castillo de Monda is an intimate boutique hotel. The castle with its surprising decor and modern facilities is an unforgettable setting for a relaxing stay. Personal attention, the relaxed atmosphere and fine cuisine will make you feel very welcome.
  • The castle is built on the foundations of “Al-Mundat,” a fortress from the 9th century. One of the original towers is still visible, as are parts of the foundations, which can be found throughout the interior. Situated on top of a we have amazing views.
  • Castillo de Monda is run by our team of international young professionals of whom we are very proud. They will do their utmost to make you feel at home.
  • The area is known for its rich culture and traditional white villages. Vibrant cities like Córdoba and Granada are an ideal destination for a day trip. The cultural university town of Malaga is only half an hour away while Marbella lies at a 15 min. drive.
  • Near the hotel you’ll find several golf courses. Castillo de Monda is also the perfect location for hiking or cycling. It is located in the nature reserve ‘Sierra de las Nieves’ and in wintertime even a daytrip skiing to the Sierra Nevada could be done.
