Up in the hills above Estepona, hidden behind foliage, gated and peaceful, is a renovated house of character and soul. English Stefanie, well-travelled and living near by, has opened her former family home to guests. Imagine French windows to a terrace-veranda, a big swish kitchen in the old stables, a pool on the lawn below, an orchard of oranges and pomegranates. At the back: the peaceful road. It’s a wonderful house for a family of eight, full of warmth, comfort and character. There are lovely thick cream curtains with a red motif, antique doors, modern paintings and pictures, two kitchen sinks (one fed from the well), books, WiFi, TV and deep sofas, and four bedrooms (two downstairs) with views of the sea. You have ping-pong table on the lower terrace, figs, oranges and peaches to pluck, and a Moroccan-tiled table for al fresco lunches. Or just hop in the car to the rustic bar on the beach: great tapas a four-minute drive away. Further along is ‘Laguna Village’ (chic boutiques, posh beach). Estepona, known for its charming port, quaint shops and snazzy marina, is 3km.
