The
Experience

Up in the hills above Estepona, hidden behind foliage, gated and peaceful, is a renovated house of character and soul. English Stefanie, well-travelled and living near by, has opened her former family home to guests. Imagine French windows to a terrace-veranda, a big swish kitchen in the old stables, a pool on the lawn below, an orchard of oranges and pomegranates. At the back: the peaceful road. It’s a wonderful house for a family of eight, full of warmth, comfort and character. There are lovely thick cream curtains with a red motif, antique doors, modern paintings and pictures, two kitchen sinks (one fed from the well), books, WiFi, TV and deep sofas, and four bedrooms (two downstairs) with views of the sea. You have ping-pong table on the lower terrace, figs, oranges and peaches to pluck, and a Moroccan-tiled table for al fresco lunches. Or just hop in the car to the rustic bar on the beach: great tapas a four-minute drive away. Further along is ‘Laguna Village’ (chic boutiques, posh beach). Estepona, known for its charming port, quaint shops and snazzy marina, is 3km.

Location

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Stefanie Maxine

  • A 3 minute drive to the lively town of Estepona. Explore the pretty old streets by foot, they are lined with hundreds of brightly cascading flowerpots. Find the Roman remains, and the old church.
  • Enjoy the great tapas bars and restaurants in Estepona. There are clothes and shoe shops not to be missed. Visit Estepona marina, Sunday morning market is great fun and lots on offer, plenty of restaurants and night life.
  • Have a lunch or an evening drink at one of the beach bars that line the lovely promenade. There are excellent restaurants in town. Why not sit in one of the lovely plazas and enjoy dinner or tapas, taking in the atmosphere.
  • El Girasol is well situated for exploring Andalucia. The historic and vibrant cities of Seville, Granada, Cordoba and Jerez are all under a 2 hours drive away, and well worth a visit.
  • Puerto Banus marina has some spectacular yachts and shops to match, a 15 minute drive, and a further 5 minute drive will take you to Marbella, with lovely old part full of super shops and restaurants.
  • Close by are horse riding, tennis clubs, water sports and Selwo safari park. You could not be better placed to have a great holiday packed with activities or just chill on the lovely terrace of the house and enjoy the pool.
