It’s peaceful here, high up in the pine-swathed Sierra de los Filabres with wonderful views over the Almanzora valley. Choose from one of five apartments, separate from the main building, each with an open fireplace and sofa, little handmade kitchenettes and beamed ceilings – small but perfectly formed! Downstairs bedrooms have tiled floors, upstairs ones wooden, colours are jolly, wet room style bathrooms have bright mosaic tiles and each have a small outdoor eating area. You can nip over to the main house for breakfasts of organic eggs, bread, ham and cheese and homemade cakes – or be lazy and have it delivered. Lunch is available and dinner is served in the dining room which is also open to the public. You’ll love the regional dishes of organic lamb, Iberico pork, wild boar, Galician beef, and everything cooked in the wood oven. Javier and Pepa are committed eco-warriors – solar panels, a biomass boiler, and saltwater pool are just the starting point – they even treat all the waste water and use it for their organic garden, growing much of their own veg. Hike to view 1,000-year-old trees. Lovely.
