The Experience

Swing in the hammock between the palms, take a dip in the saltwater pool. It’s all about the outdoors here. Your charming Swiss hosts (ex chefs) serve beautiful breakfasts on the terraces, and encourage you to pick the garden’s fruits: oranges, pomegranates, figs.

They live in the farmhouse, you stay in a separate building, the former barns. Every pool-facing room has its own piece of veranda, while the apartment with the sofabed, suitable for a family, has an idyllic garden terrace with views of the hills. Get sociable by the self-service bar; enjoy a gentle game of petanque.

The fishing village of Olhos de Água, a six-minute drive, has kept its charm, and if you love seafood, Restaurante Calheiros is perfect. The beach is beautiful but does get busy; if so, try the bigger beach at Falésia.  Then home, to sunsets, sundowners and sleep.

Reviews

Quinta Quinze is a lovely oasis. There are lots of fragrant smells as you walk around the gardens and you can hear the birds singing away. Tom is a great chef and cooked us the most delicious meal. We had a brilliant evening!

Ella, Bristol

Close to the beaches yet away from the hustle and bustle, Quinta Quinze is ideally located for a peaceful, relaxing stay. We were made to feel very welcome, and the delicious dinner cooked by Tom was a highlight of our trip!

Florence, Bristol

Tom and Angela very interesting and helpful having travelled extensively.Nothing is too much. Good home made, baked breakfasts. Wonderful local walks. Great sunsets. Eating fruit picked straight from trees. Easy access to the local beaches and restaurants.

Location

The neighbourhood

With hills behind, beaches below, and orange farms all around, the farmhouse lies at the top of a winding track. There are wild walks along the river Quarteira, and shops, restaurants and sands in Olhos da Água, a ten-minute cycle downhill. Equidistant between Boliqueime and Albufeira, this stretch of coastline is very popular; if you’ve come for the coast, consider a visit out of season.

Local points of interest from Tom Gfeller

  • Since eating and drinking is our passion, we know many local markets and good restaurants. We are happy to give tips on where to eat the best, if we do not cook ourselves ...

Introducing

Tom Gfeller

Angela and Tom left Switzerland for the Algarve “after 30 years of gastronomy.” Professional chefs, they are a charming, welcoming and well-travelled couple, whose languages include English and Portuguese. They can organise bike rentals, spa treatments and discounted courses, and could not be more helpful.
