An exceptional, modern architect’s house – and home – high in the hills above Tavira and with spectacular views to the Algarve’s Atlantic coast. It may be hard to leave the terraces with those stunning views, elegant loungers and the (7m x 4m) infinity pool… but indoors is beautifully designed and furnished too, and has an interior patio. Full of light, passages and hidden rooms, it’s on two levels ingeniously built into the slope. The big inviting living area has windows all around; the well-equipped kitchen has French doors to the small garden – how lovely to sit out in the shade of the eucalyptus tree. You step down to the left of the entrance into the bright, white master bedroom with its local stone floors, dressing room, bath/shower room, and sea views. To the right, the smaller double looks east and has its own shower room. When you can tear yourself away, it’s a pretty, winding 15-minute drive, past the only neighbouring house, down to Tavira’s shops and restaurants, do try Spanish tapas at Ayamonte, and the beaches along the coast. Friendly, enterprising Tamar is on hand should you need her.
