Morada do Sol

Cascais, Estremadura

You can completely unwind on this relaxed villa estate, magnificently caught between the sea and mountains... and Lisbon down the road

4 places

Sleeping from 4 – 12

Relax on this rambling Tuscan-style villa estate, superbly placed within walking distance of the Sintra Mountains or the wild surf of Guincho Beach. What’s more, genteel Cascais is just down the coast and Lisbon is a 20-minute drive. Embrace celebrity status as you enter a genuflecting colonnade of palms, passing a duo of cottages on the way, to a split-level villa. Each level can be hired separately or grandly altogether and Marcella is always sensitive to the make-up of different groups. Upstairs in the villa is smartest, with attractive oriental touches in the decoration and pockets of flowers; one bathroom sports a blue cylindrical shower that reaches to the sky. Several rooms have their own garden entrance, in keeping with the relaxed and unfussy style throughout… and most of the time you’ll be kicking back under the pines or on the terrace, or diving into the glorious glass-housed pool before the barbecue begins; kids will love the football court too. Stays are often tailor-made, and eco-minded Marcella can organise in-house catering to help you have a really special stay.

It is a lovely place to stay, very nice house, nice swimming pool and 10 mins from the beach. I would definitely recommend it.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Marcella Franchi

  • Morada do Sol is ideally situated in a rural setting, 6km from cosmopolitan Cascais and Estoril. This is an ideal location for nature lovers, being in the Sintra-Cascais protected National Park.
  • The restful view looks down a green and unspoilt valley with the sea in the far distance in one direction, and the mystical Sintra mountains in the other.
  • The village of Malveira da Serra is less than five minutes walk away, with a range of shops and restaurants. The village retains its traditional charm.
  • Sintra, a world heritage site with its castle, palaces and gardens set in lush vegetation and enjoying ravishing views is a lovely 15 minute car drive across the mountain.
  • Less far in the other direction is the coastal resort of Cascais, where you will find superb beaches, restaurants, night-life and shopping, its marina, a casino, as well as a charming old town with rewarding site-seeing.
  • Lisbon is half an hour away; a number of other world class cultural and historic sites make an enjoyable day trip. The summer brings international festivals; classical music and ballet in Sintra, jazz in Estoril and fireworks in Cascais.
