In the middle of countryside, under two miles from the Silver Coast, is a young, friendly, ‘flamboyant’ B&B. Gorgeous beaches abound, from the small bay of São Martinho do Porto to Nazaré’s wide curving ribbon of sands; you couldn’t find a better situation. Flamboyant is a new enterprise for Patrick and Hayat, a warm, friendly, Belgian pair who fell in love with Portugal, found themselves a place to renovate and moved in with their two teenage children. Along tree-lined roads you end in a humble village (1 cafe, no shops), and there is the windmill before you, round and stout in the dazzling sun and perfect for two. Add two white cubes for two guest suites and you have something special: a place that combines old-and-charming with flawless minimalist taste. The interiors are awash with light, cleverly designed and so comfortable. There are cots, games, toys and under sixes stay for free (the windmill has a steep rail-free stair so isn’t suitable for little ones). Outside: white gravel, lavender and ornamental grasses, and a lawn each side of the pool. Breakfasts – in the house or on the patio – are outstanding.
