The Experience

Welcome to this 18th-century quinta, white and sparkling with a yellow trim, and these self-catering suites and an apartment – all fresh and impeccably turned out. The two studios, one with a sea view and one of mountains, and the apartment have sitting areas and basic kitchens – microwave, hotplate and fridge. You’ll also find fruit, bread, orange juice and wine along with some basics. Terracotta floors gleam; bathrooms stock Portuguese soaps and soft white towels.

On the ground floor there is a spare double bedroom and bathroom with its own entrance, little fridge, the means to make tea and coffee but no kitchen. With a little notice the owners can order groceries and drinks as well as organic fruits and vegetables, mainly harvested in their own garden, daily eggs from their hens and homemade jams. Pop-up dinners can also be ordered.

Wander the pretty gardens admiring the wonderful views and soaking in the deep peace.

Location

The neighbourhood

Tucked into the mountains of the Sintra Natural Park, the house overlooks a valley that leads to the sea... the setting is beguiling. Walk to Monserrate Palace, drive to little Azenhas do Mar, or to colourful Colares for bars and cafés. Colares is also a wine-growing region, producing the very popular and increasingly rare Colares wine. Taste the delicious local pastries, visit tiny white villages.

Introducing

Ana Varanda

Ana and her husband have been running this place since 2003. They used to do B&B and are very chatty and friendly. They have two dogs, three sheep and some chickens. They want you to feel free to wander around and enjoy the lovely views or sit under the shade of a tree in the garden.
