The
Experience

A brilliant opportunity to live as a Lisboeta. Up a dozen cobbled alleys – or the funicular should the steps prove exhausting – to arrive at these neighbouring houses, perched high above the city centre. Casa Pátria is a three-storey house for four: contemporary, open-plan, with a clever, funky use of space and filled with light from top to toe. Find a cream sofa, an antique bed, a well-equipped kitchen beneath a sky light, and a lovely open-tread staircase up to a living room and a split-level roof terrace: what views! Villa Serra too is full of views, and has three double bedrooms, the smallest making up for its size with a throne-like Bilros bed. Find marble, granite and cork floors, smart brown leather sofas, a 180-degree panorama from the living room, and more views from the garden terrace – sit out here with a nice cold glass of vinho verde and a fresh slab of cod roasting on the barbecue. Portugal’s queen of fado, Amalia Rodrigues, was born just around the corner and now her nephew offers exclusive fado tours to guests.

Location

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Debra Kleber

  • Our historic parish, Pena, is moments from the Rossio (Lisbon's main plaza), but it’s a family neighborhood, home to Embassies and grassy parks: a village in the heart of Lisbon.
  • There is a grocery store and several cafés within easy walking distance of the houses. The owner of our local mercado is something of a wine buff, and can help you get to know Portuguese wines.
  • The center of Lisbon, St Jorge’s Castle, the River Tejo and the train station to Sintra are all within a few kilometers, and from the Rossio metro station, or 24 hour taxi stand, you can reach almost any point in the Lisbon.
  • For families with kids, we’re happy to point out the several playgrounds nearby. We also stock the houses with guide books, phrase books and a collection of brochures on local attractions for all ages.
  • In this Historically Protected Neighbourhood the streets have hardly changed in the last few hundred years. Residents from centuries past, including Amalia Rodrigues and Luis de Camoes, would probably still recognize them.
  • Lisbon is an amazing city, with something for everyone. Let us know what you’re interests are, and we’re happy to help you plan. We never get tired of watching people fall in love with Lisbon!
