Your own tennis court – in Venice! Borrow a racket, or watch others from the jasmine-covered bandstand in the garden. Francesca’s parents live on the ground floor and share both court and garden. These well-restored apartments are elegant yet cosy, with family antiques, fresh flowers, smart sofas and Persian rugs on parquet floors. There are intriguing quirks too: an original window and its glass preserved as a piece of art, a 1756 dowry chest from Alto Adige. And you’re never far from a window with bustling canal views. The smaller apartment on the first floor has a sweet twin/double tucked away beneath the rafters, and a larger double room downstairs with modern paintings by a local artist. The little kitchen is beautifully equipped, the dining room has high ceilings and a Venetian marble floor. ‘Grimani’ has a bedroom on the ground floor with garden views and another up; the super new ‘Manin’ is also on the ground floor. Multi-lingual Francesca who lives nearby is kind, friendly and runs cookery courses that include buying the produce from the Rialto market, just around the corner.
