Good for couples or families with older children is this quiet 200-year-old farmhouse in Umbrian countryside – owner Marco makes sure you are not disturbed, even at breakfast time! Each suite has a kitchenette with a cooker and you’ll find all you need to prepare your own little feast just as late as you want. You won’t find any startling decor, just good old-fashioned elegance with antiques, comfy chairs, family paintings jostling with botanical prints and tables set up for card playing. You’re up a hill so the views are magnificent and in the garden you’ll find rosemary, rose bushes and lavender by the pool – bliss to float in here surrounded by such greenery and maybe read a book in the hammock afterwards. Visit lovely Narni nearby, explore the magnificent cathedral at Orvieto (and a wine tasting afterwards) or the Marmore falls. This is Umbria at its rural best and away from the tourist hordes but you can get to those too – a mainline train can whisk you to Rome or Florence. Return to colour-themed rooms with floral bedspreads, exposed stone walls and spotless bathrooms. They can organise your wedding here so do ask.
