The Experience

An amazing surprise at the top of the hill: an old farmhouse in acres of land with heavenly views. You’re in the Umbrian hills with space and silence. Days can be spent meeting the beautiful neighbours – over 40 species of butterfly live nearby.

Isabel and Paul are hugely family-friendly but don’t ignore the grown-ups – know the children are happy whilst you swing in the hammock or enjoy massage and beauty treatments. Three self-catering houses stand in a row, each with a barbecue terrace – interiors are fresh and immaculate. Find log-burning stoves, excellent kitchens and wrought-iron beds.

Read a book, listen to music, cool off in the pool, play ping pong or volleyball. Wander the organic gardens planted with cherries, apricots and almonds; continue to open countryside and woods. Take the old unsignposted mountain road to Assisi for stunning views and drop in on Bevagna’s gorgeous churches.

Reviews

We spent a week in September with our 2 children (18mnths & 3yrs) and I can't recommend this place enough. Holidays with children certainly aren't what they used to be! But we're reluctant to change the style of our holidays just because we now have tiny people in tow and that's one of the main reasons that Pian Di Cascina was so appealing. It still felt like an adult holiday, but the tiny people had a fabulous time too.

Pian Di Cascina has become our families yearly refuge from the pace of modern life. It somewhere both parents and children can go to detox, reconnect with nature, make new friends and eat stunning food. We have been coming to Pian Di Cascina for the last 3 years and each year Isabel and Paul somehow manage to outdo the last.

What I really loved in this place was it felt closer to nature in this crazy busy consumer world we have with little regard for the earth. The children were running around a beautiful playfield with friends. It was away from big commercial hotels, and I felt more mindful there of everything we did. It was also environmentally friendly. It was a time to kick back, relax, eat good food and drink prosecco with new friends, in a beautiful, clean place with all the wildlife, fresh air in the morning to glorious sunshine. A holiday I will remember in particular for my children in years to come.

Location

The neighbourhood

With its playing field, pool, fort and zipwire it’s difficult to leave - Isabel’s home cooked meals make it a harder choice! Lasagnes and pasta bakes can be purchased to cook ‘at home’ or gather round the large table in La Tavernetta for an organic feast. In 2.1 miles you reach the village of Cascastalda for food and important cheese supplies - there's also an adventure park.

Introducing

Paul & Isabel Farber

Isabel and husband Paul worked in the big city before leaving it behind to live the dream. They fled office jobs once they’d discovered this farmhouse and all its acres. Alongside renovating they started a family and welcomed three children. Passionate about eco-credentials, upcycling, supporting local business and growing their own produce - their enthusiasm is infectious.
