La Licina

I spent four days at the Licina. The place is a spell, not a house but a real little, private, ensemble of buildings, like to be in your own village. I had my charming and large apartment, overlooking a little private alley. Ten minutes by foot from Spoleto, where is a bunch of monuments to discover. Mostly, I appreciated very much Francesca and Ludovico's welcome. The owners are the kindest and warm people you can imagine, they act as friends, not as landlords. I will definitely come back. Thank you La Kicina.

What a beautiful place and fabulous hosts. Ludovico and Francesca could not have been more helpful. No request was too much trouble and we even got an invite to look around their property which is the original farm house well modernised inside complete with a beautiful original chapel dating back to 1699. We had a lovely time visiting Assisi, Spello, Trevi, Terni and the Montioni winery at Montefalco. Lalicina is on the outskirts of Spoleto which has to be seen to be believed. The accommodation is close to a supermarket, short walk to a local restaurant. Also chilled in garden and by the pool

What a wonderful place! We stayed for one week at the end of the heat wave in early July. The cottage was lovely and cool, well decorated and perfectly equipped. The swimming pool was a godsend and our 4 year old boy never wanted to leave. We also loved eating on the terrace watching the sunset over the hills. There's lots to do in the area. We visited Spoleto three times, as well as other surrounding villages. The pizza place close by was great, especially for parents because they do takeaway. Best of all were our hosts who showed us bags of truffles gathered on their own land.

A comfortable apartment in a beautiful, quiet location, with a warm welcome and fantastic hospitality from Ludovico and Francesca. Our plan was to go walking, and despite the heat we enjoyed some splendid walks in the forested hills around Spoleto, and cooled off in the lovely swimming pool on our return to La Licina. Our hosts ensured we had transport when we needed it, and nothing was too much trouble for them. Their English is so good that it made us too lazy to use our basic Italian! We ate great pizza at the hotel / restaurant next door and a delicious meal at the nearby Agriturismo.

Fantastic stay with Ludovico and Francesca. Their long experience as hosts shows. We felt at home from start to finish, loved the clean flat and great pool and thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful area. A must for us to come back.

It was a very special experience to stay at La Lacinia. Not only in the delightful countryside of Umbria, and near wonderful Spoleto, the apartment, grounds, and swimming pool at Lacinia were very special. And this was enhanced by the very warm, friendly and helpful atmosphere created by Ludovico and Francesca. It really was a delight.

La Licina was sublime--a spacious and very comfortable apartment in a perfect spot just outside a beautiful Umbrian hill-town. We were planning to spend all of our time hopping on trains to visit neighbouring towns, but we got seduced and spent some heavenly days reading in hammocks, swimming in the pool and watching the sunset. But it was also a great base from which to explore the area. Blissful.

We stayd at La Licina with our three kids for almost three weeks. We had a fantastic time! The house is situated on a beautiful spot, it's quit and peaceful. The children had a great time at the swimmingpool and playing games in de house of glas. There a lots of nice villages and marketscto visit.

This is more than a holiday it is an experience. Nestled in a rural setting, a 30 minute comfortable walk or a 5 minute drive to the centre of beautiful Spoleto, La Licina provided us with the perfect place to stay. Waking to the sounds of chirping birds, walking through the olive trees, or the beautiful garden. Taking a short cut through the donkey paddock to the magnificent local restaurant is just an amazing and enjoyable experience. The hosts Ludovico and Francesca are lovely people. During our stay they became good friends and we found this the perfect base to explore Umbria from.

Wonderful hosts, wonderful Spoleto and great accommodation. Francesca and Ludovico made our two weeks a great experience. They could not have been more attentive hosts and went the extra mile to make our stay in beautiful Spoleto very special. A great location to explore beautiful Umbria. This place is "tops" and we are very happy to recommend.

We had the most wonderful stay at La Licina. Ludovico + Francesca are the kindest and most helpful of hosts and gave us so many tips on what to see and where to eat etc. Our apartment Tartufo was clean and comfortable and well equipped, with a seating area outside up on the terrace, where we sat each morning for breakfast in idyllic, peaceful surroundings, soaking in the glorious views across the valley below. Yet only 5 mins from Spoleto and a good supermarket with free parking. So many sights to see and a fabulous cycle track along the old railway line all the way to Assisi. We will return!

We had a fabulous time at La Licina. Francesca and Ludovico made us feel incredibly welcome and gave us lots of helpful suggestions of places to visit. The setting of La Licina is stunning. It is nestled in the middle of an olive grove and has beautiful grounds which include a lovely pool and a badminton net. Our 9 year old daughter loved it here. We stayed in Tartufo which is a comfortable and well equipped appartment. Reliable wi-fi was very helpful. It is only 10 minutes drive to beautiful Spoleto. We really felt at home at La Licina and we hope to visit again in the future.

We appreciated very much staying at La Licina - once again. Nice house, beautiful gardens, all amenities ok, clean swimmingpool. Also a good base for exploration of Spoleto, surroundings and cities further away. Appreciated also Francesca's and Ludovico's friendliness and kind hospitality. A very nice week. Might very well di it again some time.

Loving being back at La Licina; our third time! Wonderful location, facilities and hospitality.It is impossible to stay away from La Licina and the delightful Spoleto. Hosts Ludovico and Francesca have created a very special ambience for their guests; close to Spoleto yet in the countryside and oh so quiet overnight. Always on hand to advise re activities and possibilities, Ludovico and Francesca open up Spoleto and indeed, wider Umbria for their guests. Beautifully appointed accommodation, in close proximity to La Macchia country restaurant- a gem, La Licina is a winner.

We are regular visitors of La Licina, since the 1990s already, first with our three sons (who loved the excellent swimming pool), and since they have their own life just the two of us. One of our children has already returned to La Licina with his wife and we plan a holiday in the near future with the three grandchildren. La Licina thus became for our family a kind of second home, a beautiful, quiet and relaxing little heaven on earth, run by the very cordial owners. Spoleto is moreover ideally situated to visit Umbria (Perugia, Assisi, Norcia, ...) and even Rome is not far away.

Our stay at La Licina for the month of March was truly memorable and one which we will always hold in our hearts! Our cosy self-contained home was charming, with a well-stocked kitchen, comfy bed, and ample space for relaxing. We loved hiking in the picturesque countryside through olive groves and oak forests, and at each day's end, enjoying the stunning views from our own private terrace in the gardens. Ludovico and Francesca are lovely people and the consummate hosts, taking us out to explore nearby villages and mountain trails. Tante grazie e un abbraccione a tutti e due!

A lovely, peaceful place to stay - Ludovico and Francesca made us very welcome. Their advice was much appreciated (and the lifts when we did not have a car!) as were the plums and garden vegetables. Despite arriving in exceptional heat, La Ginestra was very cool. Our children enjoyed their daily swim in the beautifully situated pool and communing with the donkeys! We ate well a number of times at the restaurant only 5 minutes walk across the field. The stunning countryside and hilltop towns around Spoleto are easily accessible from La Licina. We would love to return during Spring or Autumn.

Lovely private location a couple of kms from Spoleto. We stayed in Il Tartufo; a converted 16th century farm building close to the hosts. They speak English very well and are on hand, but not intrusive. The second appartment has a more private entrance and if you wanted to see Francesca and Ludovico less, you could book that one. Pool is lovely and clean and our teenagers loved it. There is the advantage that you only share it with one other family.

The moment we arrived at La Licina, we loved it SO much that we cancelled plans to do a side trip to Abruzzo. Our apartment, La Ginestra, was clean, spacious and well-appointed. We did without the expense of a car (first time) and did just fine. You can walk into Spoleto to the train station, restaurants, shops and places of interest. By train you can reach many other cities. You can also walk through a field to a local restaurant. Our favorite parts? The golden skies of an Umbrian evening and our hosts, Francesca and Ludovico, who are now friends. We're going back this year!

We had a fantastic 2 weeks at La Licina in August 2012. 2 adults and 2 children aged 11 and 12, we stayed in "il Tartufo" which was spacious, comfortable and fully equipped with everything we needed. The swimming pool was the best we have had in a private rental - good size, beautifully maintained, lovely setting with great views to the distant Umbrian hills. We all enjoyed the donkeys and cats and munching the yummy figs and tomatoes offered by Ludovico. The hosts were welcoming, generous, friendly and full of local knowledge which they were happy to share. Spoleto is lovely too!
