Malvin gets up unspeakably early to make fabulous breakfasts. And while behind its classic Tuscan exterior their home is unquestionably cool and elegant there’s absolutely no stuffiness; he and Amanda are generous and relaxing. Their idea is that you have the most memorable of times doing as much or as little as you like. Amanda’s bold paintings decorate gorgeous, light-filled corner bedrooms – a different hill-top town visible from each one – and bathrooms almost as marvellous! White is the prevailing colour, in Frette sheets, stools to swivel on, sofas to sink into, ceiling beams and heated travertine floors, with flashes of colour and classy Italian designer pieces. Films can be screened by the fireplace which spans the house, the dining room can be lit with multi-coloured lights, disco-style; the summer kitchen is yours – you can help yourself to fruit and vegetables, and local wines are available to buy. Gallery and garden views are beautiful; the rosemary in bloom around the pool a stunning sight. Relax here or be tempted by a tailored wine-tasting day and a trip to Siena or Florence. Spoil yourself.
