On 3,000 farmed hectares between the Alps and the sea is a gated agriturismo run on well-oiled wheels. This is due to the indefatigable energy of Martino and Giovanna, a couple who understand families – they have four children themselves. The B&B rooms are in the main house, all great sizes, all different: Tuscan beds, soft wall lights and prints, mosquito-proofed windows, big arched sitting areas. There’s a lovely communal sitting room with plenty of sofas, and a raftered dining room with two sociable tables. In the buildings beyond are 13 two-storey apartments of every shape and size, with terraces divided by hedges of jasmine so you may be as private or as sociable as you like. There’s a pool open from June to September, fringed by neatly gravelled pathways and lawned spaces with sunloungers. On the Pisa road are restaurants, their farm shop – turkey, game, wine, vegetables, olive oil – and a well-being centre brimming with treatments. Football, tennis and ping-pong are on tap, riding and sailing can be arranged, and the sandy beaches are a bike ride away.
