A peaceful 1900s villa a 15-minute walk from Piazza San Marco – with parking! Off a leafy residential square, close to restaurants, antique shops, botanic gardens and Russian Orthodox church, is a friendly Italian-family concern, a lovely little find. The Antea is overseen from early morning until 8.30pm by owner Delitta, her sister Serena and mascot Marta (the Jack Russell); when they go home, Florina takes over. Enjoy continental breakfast with fruits in season – and perhaps homemade ‘bomboloni’ (mini doughnuts) – served at tiny round tables in the elegant dining room. Up the white stone stair are big airy bedrooms with tall windows and timeworn parquet, lavish silken drapes in yellows and greens, net curtains, pristine covers, walk-in wardrobes, posies of plastic flowers. Extras include air con, mini bar, WiFi and a restaurant guide put together by Delitta. Beds are extra-king in size and bathrooms are vast, with hydromassage showers. Through the side gate is a courtyard shaded by horse chestnut trees; a further pebbled courtyard makes a tranquil spot for an aperitivo before a night on the town.
