Dimora Storica Villa Il Poggiale

San Casciano in Val di Pesa, Florence

A much-loved Tuscan villa restored to elegance: dinner in an olive store, paintings, frescoes, rose garden...and Florence a 20-minute drive

28 rooms

Rooms sleep 2 – 5

Where to start? This historic 14th-century Tuscan villa is serenely lovely. Breathe in the scent of old-fashioned roses from a seat on the Renaissance loggia. Wander through olive trees to the pool. Retreat to the house for some 1800s elegance. Much loved, full of memories, this is the childhood home of brothers Johanan and Nathanel Vitta, who devoted two years to its restoration. Rooms are big, beautiful, full of light, and everything has been kept as it was. An oil painting of their grandmother welcomes you as you enter; a portrait of Machiavelli by Gilardi hangs in the salon. Bedrooms are all different, all striking. Some have frescoes and silk curtains, others have fabrics commissioned from a small Tuscan workshop. The attention to detail is superb but in no way overpowering. One of the independent apartments is in a restored farmhouse with original fireplace and stunning views over the rose garden. The staff clearly love being here and want you to love it too. Breakfast is a generous buffet, dinner is in the restored olive store and Florence is a 20-minute drive.
