The Experience

Your architect-designed villa is one of several in the hills behind Vendicari Nature Reserve, on the southern-most part of Sicily’s east coast. Peter and Ottavia live in Rome but have added personal touches to the décor.

Floor-to-ceiling glass windows and a roof terrace make the most of the amazing views, and although the house sleeps six there’s room to entertain plenty more. An open fire keeps things cosy in colder weather, and you can fire up the barbecue and dine al fresco on the veranda in the summer.

Hike through the nature reserve and spot migratory birds on the lagoon, or walk along the rocky coastline; the picturesque fishing village of Marzamemi and the Baroque palazzos and churches of the city of Noto are just 15 minutes’ drive away.

Reviews

Stylish and stunning property in an enchanting area of Sicily! We loved the architect-designed space, and the expansive views from both sides of the house, towards rolling fields on one side and towards the sea on the other. Peter was the most helpful and gracious host - even when we made the very stupid mistake of locking ourselves out with the key inside the door! Would absolutely love to come back.

Ying, London

Stylish yet cozy property surrounded by nature, with great views of the sea from the large garden and terrace and from indoor as well. The fireplace makes it perfect also in winter.

Location

The neighbourhood

The Vendicari Nature Reserve can be discovered on foot, and the lagoons host a wide range of birdlife – flamingos, herons, storks and cormorants in the autumn; ducks, pintails and terns in the winter. You can drive to the beach in ten minutes. Nearby is a small but important Roman site, the Villa Romana del Tellaro, which has elaborate mosaic pavements. The area has plenty to do in the summer, with summer concerts and events, and Noto is a lively spot in summer, especially at night – for shopping, head to Rosolini, 20 minutes away, as it’s much quieter.

Local points of interest from Peter Daroda

  • The main entrance of the Vendicari Riserva is just 10 minutes walking you can walk for hours along beaches and beautiful views. Birdwatching is a must. My favourite beach is Marianelli.
  • 30 Minutes by car you can reach Modica Siracusa or Ragusa in less then one hour I suggest to visit Scicli ...little romantic village.
  • The Noto area is famous for its almonds which you will find in different local dishes.
