The Experience

Wander down to the popular swimming platform (150m): bask on the rocks and splash in the sea. This elevated flat has the old town on one side and the sea on the other.

Giuseppina’s townhouse, Palazzo Colpace, was re-built in the 1800s. Each apartment has a different feel: the top floor is a sleek and spacious retreat, the first-floor apartment is homely and full of art – both have spectacular terraces. The Courtyard apartment on the ground floor is cosy and an ideal base for two. Fling open the French windows; enjoy an aperitivo in the breeze.

Saunter around the streets of Ortigia, the ancient ‘island’ of Siracusa. The town’s landmarks span from Ancient Greek times to late baroque, and the 18th-century Duomo is a six-minute stroll. Laze by the bars in the harbour, and watch the yachts pass by.

Reviews

We really enjoyed our stay in this 2-person apartment. The location was excellent, in a quiet street close to the waterfront. The accommodation was comfortable and airy, spread over two floors with its own entrance. There was everything we needed and the flat was sparkling clean. Guiseppina was a perfect host - welcoming us warmly, and recommending a choice of good restaurants and a local taxi service. We intend to return next year.

Sue, London

We had a wonderful stay in Palazzo Colpace. The location is perfect, right in the most atmospheric part of Ortigia. Easy access to the sea, right at the end of the road, and perfect for wandering the maze of historic streets with bars and restaurants all close at hand. Giuseppina is a warm and welcoming hostess, full of tips and information if you need it. The apartment for two had its own entrance and was perfectly equipped and spotlessly clean. Warmly recommended.

Palazzo Colpace is wonderful. It’s spacious, beautifully styled and decorated, very well equipped, spotlessly clean, cool in the Sicilian summer and full of interesting things - paintings, furniture, textiles, books. The main terrace overlooks the sparkling Ionian Sea, with places to swim 2 minutes away, and the many delights of Ortigia are all nearby. Giuseppina was so helpful and friendly before and during our stay, and her care and attention to detail made our visit especially enjoyable. Grazie mille et arrivederci!

Giuseppina is the proud owner of this great location for exploring all that the wonderful Ortigia offers. We went sea kayaking, practically from the door, and restaurants, cafes, sea fronts and wonderful alley ways to explore are all immediately accessible. Don't bring a car to Ortigia, but walk and enjoy the gorgeous, historic town. We enjoyed the 'round Etna' vintage train trip despite information on public transport, excepting the great coastal mainline trains, being very difficult to source. Air con was really appreciated, as was the small but cool outside space in our courtyard apartment.

Pippa, Briancon

Stunning sea view in a modern, down to earth apartment in one of the best areas of Siracusa.

Location

The neighbourhood

The house stands 100m from the amazing cave-like Jewish baths: step back 1,500 years. Ortigia’s restaurants, cafes and treasures are a five-minute stroll, including the cathedral and its attractive piazza. For snorkelling waters, head for Parco Marino Plemmirio (15 km). Closer to home, off the crenellated walls of Forte Vigliena, is a much-loved swimming and sunbathing platform - visible from your terrace.

Local points of interest from Giuseppina Arancio

  • Ortigia has many gems to discover: Piazza Duomo with its ellipytical shape rounded by Baroque "Palazzi", St. Martin church, the Jewish area of Giudecca, Maniace Castle, the underground site, the fish and food market.
  • In the mainland you can visit the archeological park with its unique Greek Theater where every year in May and June Greek tragedies are played.
  • Plays to visit around this area: the ingenious baroque town of Noto whose stone buildings become pinkish at sunset, and the marine reserve area of Plemmirio, the nature reserve of Vendicari with its sunny beaches and the archeological site of Pantalica.
