The Experience

Sicily’s largest city is an assault on the senses: a heady mix of Byzantine churches and baroque palazzi next to an azure sea. Life spills over in markets, bars and restaurants as locals go about their day. You stay in the renovated stables of the Palazzo di Federico, down a narrow street in the heart of ancient Ballarò, close to Palermo’s oldest souk-like market and two steps from the cathedral.

The family’s passion for decoration shows in every detail and the atmosphere they have created is a joy for eyes and soul. The place is yours to enjoy, from the original art to the roaring fire in low season, from the hot tub on the deck to the Mediterranean courtyard garden where outstanding breakfasts are served: fruits, pastries, Sicilian cheeses, freshly baked desserts and lashings of strong coffee.

Visit the Botanical Gardens where everything blooms, Sunday’s vintage market at the marina or join your hosts for a cookery class.

Reviews

My family stayed in Il Giardino di Ballaro for one week in January and had the most amazing stay. The location is perfect for exploring Palermo with everything in the city within walking distance. The rooms are appointed beautifully with comfortable beds, super showers and lovely indoor and outdoor places to unwind. The breakfasts were so delicious and they went out of their way to provide my daughter who has a milk allergy with every kind of substitution. Aurora and her team are absolutely fantastic at making you feel welcome and helping you to make the most of your time in Palermo.

Annalise and her daughter Aurora are very charming and I enjoyed talking to them about a wide range of topics. The rooms are cosy and classy, the premises a mix of ancient stone, tropical trees, original works of art by contemporary local masters. I felt as if I had entered some kind of heaven on earth, sheltered from the chaos of the city historical area's life. Breakfast was yummy and genuine!

Absolutely stunning. An oasis of calm in the middle of the wonderful chaos of Palermo. Aurora and family offer the perfect location for everything, and in walking distance to the railway station. Mainline trains around the coast are great, and recommended. Otherwise local public transport is lacking, but our hosts were really helpful with suggestions on how to travel and they went to great lengths to help us with getting to different sites. The beautiful calm of the entrance, the comfortable and stylish room and lovely breakfast space outside all made for a perfect stay. Highly recommended!

Location

The neighbourhood

Walk everywhere: to the largest and oldest food market, Ballarò, to sample amazing street food and try dishes from all over the world. In the evening it's just as lively. Two of the most beautiful churches are a 5-min walk. You're close to the metro and the owners can recommend great places to eat whether you fancy a gourmet dinner in a beautiful piazza or a more relaxed meal near the cathedral.

Local points of interest from Annalise Correnti

  • The B&B is located in one of the oldest and most typical neighbourhoods of Palermo: “ Ballarò” . The historic market is just a few minutes away, famous for its colours and sounds that evoke the magical atmosphere of the Arabic souks.
  • Two of the most beautiful churches in Palermo are just a 5-minute walk: Church of Gesù, known also as Casa Professa, and Church of San Giovanni degli Eremiti .
  • The street that leads to the B&B is adjacent to the Arab Norman path, UNESCO heritage site. From here you can walk to the main attractions: the Palazzo dei Normanni, Palatina Chapel, the Cathedral and the Church of the Martorana.
  • Quattro Canti, the heart of Palermo’s historic centre, is only 10 minutes away by foot. Nearby you will discover the Piazza Vetoria, known for the so-called ‘Fountain of Shame’, the Church of San Cataldo and Piazza Bellini.
  • The central station is only a 15-minute walk from the B&B. For more information don’t hesitate to get in touch: our staff are always happy to help!
  • There are many restaurants in the area, with a very warm and welcoming atmosphere, open every day both at lunch and dinner. The owner and staff are happy to advise on the must-have specialities and help you book a table!

Introducing

Annalise Correnti

Annalise bought the property in 2011, attracted by the lush garden and its proximity to the market. She undertook an extensive restoration overseen by the art department in the local council and is delighted to host guests and share her beloved home with them. With her daughter Aurora and a small team they can introduce you to the art, food and history of this wonderful city.
