The
Experience

Twenty minutes from northern Sardinia’s sandy beaches, in a mountain village famed for weaving, an 18th-century family house to make you feel at home. It’s set in a tree-filled garden near the village museum, bright geraniums spilling from cast-iron balconies against a tall stone façade. Inside has a country feel with big fires, terracotta tiles and local rugs, and walls of chunky granite hewn from nearby hills. But there’s period elegance in the antique chests, ornate lamps, carved mirrors and white walls of the family apartments; these come with kitchenettes and balconies for sunset drinks. Views tumble over cork oaks and rocky outcrops, and a maze of boulders in ‘Moon Valley’ below. Milan-based owner Maria Cristina may greet you in summer; otherwise a friendly housekeeper looks after the property. The village’s high position gives cool relief from Sardinian summers, but there’s a terrace for soaking up sun. Aggius is an intriguing village with tapestry, carpets, gold filigree, hot springs, horse riding and quiet, star-filled nights.

Reviews

This is a very interesting village to visit with a wonderful folk museum. We stayed for 2 nights B&B in this beautiful house, with private parking in June 2012. The hospitality was outstanding, the room and balcony were beautiful and well appointed & included free internet access. Breakfast outside was a treat, with a home made 'surprise' every day; the coffee and freshly squeezed juice were particularly welcome! A place not to miss!

The Vignaredda is a beautiful, old stone house, renovated with taste and respect. The apartments (I could see the other) are great, the kitchen is fully equipped and all have a terrace with tables and sun loungers for sunbathing

Patrizia, Milan

Everything about our stay at La Vignaredda was delightful. Our apartment was wonderfully clean, fresh practical and comfortable, with a beautiful view of the mountains to the south. Cristina could not have been a kinder host. She has a huge knowledge of Sardinian culture and history, places to visit and cuisine, and could answer all our questions. Aggius itself is fascinating, a thriving village with a really good town band.. And it's very well located for visiting the northern half of Sardinia, full of interesting sites and extraordinary landscapes. Highly recommended.
