A Slow holiday in Sardinia: homemade wines, gorgeous garden, rustic suite, sumptuous breakfasts... hike among cork oaks, snooze in a hammock

Cordiality, tranquillity, simplicity, at the end of a long winding road. Built in 1850, modernised in 2003, the plain granite stazzu gallurese still keeps its reed-woven ceiling, its corner fireplace, its little windows: there’s no artifice here. This charming Milanese couple swapped the city for nature and beaches (eight miles off), lone cattle grazing, peasant foods and homemade wines: life in the slow lane. He is a garden designer and has created an ornamental and a vegetable garden in harmony with the landscape; she is a translator. They give you your own bright sitting room with a rustic bohemian décor – vine branches and sea shells, a comfortable sofa, a simple table and chairs – off which is a sweet bedroom with soothing colours and polished cement floor. The bathroom has a bath with a curtain and a washing machine; all is spotless, frill-free. Breakfasts, in contrast, are sumptuous: yogurts, fruits, pastries, cakes, quiches, cheeses, eggs and cold cuts, brought to the pergola in summer. Discover a hinterland of cork oaks and wild olives, return to a hammock slung between the trees.

We stayed for 3 nights in this totally relaxing and peaceful B&B. Our hosts were charming, hospitable & gave us lots of local information. The simple bedroom had a very comfortable bed. The sitting room was full of interest with lovely decorations. Breakfast outside was fabulous with a surprise every day. Great birdwatching across the valley.Excellent value, highly recommended. We loved it and will be coming back

What a wonderful place, so peaceful with only the sound of birds and insects. Leo and Marzia, the hosts, made us feel like their guests and after one week, felt like firm friends. They were so helpful and couldn't have done more. Hope to return.

Marzia and Leo could not have been nicer or more hospitable. There was a delicious new treat every day for breakfast and faultless guidance on places to visit.

When we return to Sardinia this is the place we will come back to. A simple bedroom, bathroom and sitting room in tranquil surroundings tucked away in a valley.Charming helpful hosts ,delicious breakfasts with new laid eggs and other delights. Great birdwatching with owls and hoopoes .A very friendly cat to keep you company and a garden to sit in .Quiet beaches, walks and interesting villages within easy distance. We left there bronzed and totally relaxed.

We stayed at Stazzo Chivoni for 3 nights which was too short. Very comfortable with your own private lounge. It has a delightful garden to linger in. The breakfasts are amazing, different each day. Beautiful fresh pastries baked by Marzio each morning, homemade jams and produce from the garden. Leo and Marzio made us feel very welcome.

We had a wonderful week at Stazzo Chivoni. Leo and Marzia were the perfect hosts and their house and garden is lovely. Breakfasts were great, with fresh figs and almonds from the garden and every day a special treat was provided. Helpful advice on beaches and places to visit ensured each day was enjoyable. Leo and Marzia have made something very special at Stazzo Chivoni - we will be back!
