Down in Italy’s heel in a small town through fields of olive trees lies this peaceful B&B. Built out of pale local stone and spread out around a courtyard in higgledy piggledy Puglian style, it’s the perfect place for couples or groups seeking some sun-drenched R&R. Airy bedrooms, each with a simple bathroom and barrel – or star-shaped ceilings, are spread out over two floors and filled with a mix of furniture old and new. Converted from the old stables, the large breakfast room has a stone fireplace and round, wrought iron tables designed by the owner’s mother. Start the day with a delicious spread of homemade cakes, jams and focaccia fresh out of the oven and ask knowledgeable hosts Andrea and Chiara for tips on where to visit. After a day spent at the beach, whizzing around on the bikes or exploring local towns, head up to the communal terrace for an aperitivo or a dip in the Jacuzzi in the shade of the palms. Although its nightlife may be calm, the little town of Cocumola is just around the corner and has everything you could possibly need, from grocery stores to traditional trattorias.
