The Experience

Stone walls, vaulted ceilings, funky ironwork beds, polished floors and nothing to jar the eye; this is a blissful place tucked into the rurality of the Itria Valley yet near to magical Ostuni, Martina Franca and Ceglie Messapica. The trouble will be finding the motivation to go out for the day when you can loaf about here: find a dreamy spot to read in the garden, shaded by olive, fig, walnut and cherry trees, have a gentle splash in the beautiful pool, wander into the kitchen to get some lunch, have an afternoon snooze, fire up the barbecue and open a bottle of wine for the evening. The ancient property has been completely restored but retains a delightful, rustic feel and views are to open fields divided by low dry stone walls and the odd whitewashed house – you’ll feel very private. Sleep peacefully in delightfully simple bedrooms with exposed stone walls and doors to the outside, freshen up in contemporary bathrooms. Tear yourselves away for great local food: ear-shaped orecchiette pasta with turnips, creamy burrata, panzerotti filled with tomato and mozzarella, seafood specialities. Gorgeous.

Reviews

Our family of 5 just returned from a 2 week stay at La Vigna, a laid back house in the peaceful countryside yet never too far away from the main historic towns. We thoroughly enjoyed the well decorated house and especially the spacious and well equipped kitchen. On Elizabeth's recommendation, the lovely Flora came and cooked Pugliese dishes twice and I spent happy moments discussing ingredients and cooking with her. My personal highlight? The 14m long pool allowing us to swim laps. Elizabeth is an attentive owner always on hand to answer queries and solve any issues.

Stunning property! Spacious, clean and beautifully furnished and decorated with a well equipped kitchen and very comfortable beds. The large garden is full of fruit trees and herbs and the terrace makes a perfect spot for al fresco dining. La Vigna is only a few minutes walk from the village which has its very own pizzeria. Although we were too early in the year to make use of the swimming pool, there was no shortage of things to do with several lovely towns nearby to visit and many beautiful walks in the surrounding countryside.

We stayed in La Vigna for a week in early April.. Set in a quiet village, but near to some lovely towns such as Ostuni, it has it's own olive grove and fruit orchard, and there is even a Truli. Inside the villa, it is both comfortable and stylish. The kitchen is well equipped, and there are spaces for dining all over the place - my favourite being breakfast in the early morning sun on the patio just outside our bedroom. We plan to come again when the weather is warm enough to use the pool. The views from there are fabulous. We loved being there.

We stayed in La Vigna on our honeymoon and we absolutely loved it. Beautiful house and setting, and feels delightfully secluded (but with a lovely pizzeria 5 mins walk away). Would highly recommend.

We had a wonderful week at La Vigna. The house is spotlessly clean, very well equipped and we really appreciated the welcome pack from Elizabeth on our arrival. The pool has an elevated position overlooking the surrounding countryside and is very well maintained (cleaned twice during our week’s stay). There is a great pizzeria in the village only 5 minutes’ walk away. Elizabeth was very helpful and always quick to respond to queries. Many thanks for a great holiday.

Jenny, Langport

What an amazing place - beautiful & stylish with lots of space! The pool is salt water too which makes it wonderful to swim in. Everything had been catered for - the lovely veranda which all the bedrooms opened out to so we could sit in the sun as soon as we awoke to the fantastic BBQ area which provided shade & sun. The tiny village of Pescarosa doesn't have much - just a great pizzeria but is totally authentic & interesting architecture. Wonderful situation for discovering Cisternino & Martina Franca (our faves) but La Vigna so stylish, you wouldn't to leave !

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from John Gillespie

  • The stunning whitewashed, ancient hilltop towns of Ostuni and Cisternino are fifteen minutes away by car, as is the baroque and beautiful Martina Franca.
  • Wonderful fresh Italian food markets can be found every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday in the surrounding towns.
  • An excellent pizzeria is a five minute stroll from the house.
  • The nearest nice beach, Lido Morelli, is around 20 minutes away in the car. Torre Guaceto, a large nature reserve and home to by far the nicest -and also wonderfully empty- beaches in the area, is a 30 minute drive from the house.
  • The grounds of the house have an abundance of fruit trees, a small working vineyard and 60 olive trees.
