Caserma Carina Country House

Mogliano, Macerata

Gleaming apartments with touches of luxury. The landscaped gardens and pool are perfect after a day's exploring this lovely, unsung region

Nothing is too much trouble for Lesley, whose easy-going vivacity makes this place a delight, while Dean gardens immaculately. Cots, toys, DVDs, a bottle of wine at the end of a journey, a welcoming smile – she and Dean provide it all. The apartments are pristine, the gardens prettily landscaped, the pool has long views. A 15-minute walk down the hill from historic Mogliano (three restaurants, shops, banks and bars) is this magnificent 19th-century country house, its four new apartments spanning three floors. The unrestored part sits quietly, rustically alongside. Inside, all is fresh, inviting and spotlessly clean. Showers have cream tiles and white towels, kitchens are quietly luxurious, sofas gleam in brown leather, cushions add splashes of red, wooden furniture is stylish and new, indoor shutters cut out early morning light, and views are of rolling hills. You are in the heart of the lovely, unsung Le Marche, an easy drive from historic Macerata and not much further from the Adriatic coast. Couples love it, and families, too. A year-round treat.

We have just returned from our first visit to Caserma Carina and know it won't be our last. Superb apartments in a lovely old house, restored to a very high standard with a fabulous pool and garden in a spectacular but tranquil setting. However it is Dean, Lesley and Grace who make this place what it is, they work tirelessly to maintain everything beautifully but still have time to be interested in their visitors, to chat or advise. There are lots of lovely places to eat nearby, & Dean's wine tour is a must! We went away as a couple but came back feeling like we'd holidayed with old friends.

We loved our stay at Caserma Carina with our two children, it really made our trip to Le Marche. Lesley and Dean are brilliant hosts, providing with as much privacy as you need but always on call for any question you may have or help you may need including where to eat, where to visit, where to park, speed limits etc. The accommodation is lovely with everything that you need for your stay. For anybody travelling with children there are a few small extras that really help - plastic cutlery, high chair seat, travel cot and a cupboard full of toys. The garden and pool are gorgeous.

Dean and Lesley have clearly put their heart and soul into Caserma Carina and it really shows. The apartments are very comfortable and beautifully finished, and the gardens are stunning, with wonderful views up to the town, and across the fields to the mountains. We visited as a family (with 2 kids, 9 and 6), and we were very happy spending long days lounging in and around the pool or on the lawn. The honesty bar is well stocked with beers and local wines, the shelves are full of books and DVDs, and the wifi is on. Dean and Lesley are superb hosts - really welcoming, friendly and funny.

Quite how the region of Marche has slipped under the typical holiday radar is something of a mystery; rolling hills, friendly locals, traditional food and wine at non-tourist prices. But what we must really share is the welcome and hospitality of our fantastic hosts at Caserma Carina, Lesley, Dean and daughter Grace, who made this a frankly unique experience! Fun, caring, helpful and incredibly generous with their time and advice yet at no time intrusive. Everything about the house, garden and pool exhibited the care and attention that is required to keep guests happy; this is a go-to place!

We never ever tire of visiting Caserma Carina - this was our 11th year ! Although we only stayed a week this time it was brilliant to catch up with some old friends we've met here a few times before over the years as well as meeting some new guests on their first visit. As always Dean and Lesley seem to attract a great mix of people which makes the holiday that much more enjoyable. Days round the pool ( when the heat is too much for trekking or driving) are always a brilliant mixture of fun , banter ( mainly from Dean) and simple relaxation with good food and wine - the latter thanks to Dean

Clive, Huddersfield

I always said I'd never go to the same place twice, but Caserma Carina did for that! Caserma Carina just keeps getting better. Sunshine, great views, great food and drink and great company make for an amazing holiday. Dean & Lesley work so hard to keep everything "just right" for their guests and are the perfect hosts with amazing local knowledge. If you're looking for an Italian escape with all the charm of Tuscany but without the coach loads of tourists and inflated prices you should definitely try Caserma Carina. A highlight is wine tasting at the local vineyard. A must for all guests.

Another fantastic holiday at Caserma Carina. The biggest compliment I can pay is that we never go to the same place twice, and this was our 2nd stay. The property was ideal for a holiday with a toddler. There was a gated pool and plenty of outdoor space and toys. The apartment was spotless, well equipped with beautiful views. It is a very peaceful and relaxing setting and some days we had the pool to ourselves. As with our previous visit, Dean and Lesley were excellent hosts and welcomed us like old friends. I cannot fault it at all and we are already discussing the possibility of a 3rd visit!

Hannah, Bristol

Caserma Carina nestles in a wonderful location. This was our third visit and we were thrilled to be reunited with the spectacular view. There to meet us were Dean, Lesley and Grace. Their welcome was so warm and hospitable. They have done a marvellous and sensitive job in restoring their property and in providing lovely, comfortable accommodation. The garden and pool area are really attractive and tended to meticulously by Dean and Lesley. They are up early every morning to prepare the garden for their guests and are always available to offer useful advice and information about the local area.

Jean, Harrogate

Dean Lesley - and not forgetting the lovely Grace - are wonderful hosts; they know the region inside out. One day we were stuck for somewhere new to go and Dean suggested a trip to Fabriano, to the historic paper factory - wasn't listed in our guide books but we had a really interesting day. Have to admit this year we did spend a lot of time relaxing in or around the pool – just brilliant – entertainment courtesy of Grace.

Gerrard, Totterdam

We have been going to Caserma Carina now for a number of years, with a group of friends to paint and draw under the tuition of Teresa Witz. Lesley and Dean have always made us very welcome, to the point that we now feel we are visiting friends, who happen to live in a very beautiful and real part of Italy. The Apartments are large, comfortable, and furnished to a high standard. One of the things that we appreciate on this holiday are the views, the varying light and the silence that surrounds Caserma Carina.

Ann, London

Travelling with my husband and three children aged 21, 19 and 15 we rented two of the four apartments. We were warmly greeted by the owners Lesley and Dean who, realising it was a bank holiday, immediately took us to the nearest supermarket to buy provisions. The apartments were immaculate with everything you could possibly need. We were given lots of help in finding local attractions and advice on the best places to suit our family. This was a truly memorable holiday and I hope we will be able to return again soon. I would without doubt highly recommend it.

Had a truly amazing stay at Caserma Carina. Lesley and Dean are approachable, friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the area. Mogliano is a stunning and quaint old town and features the lovely Fondente bar where you get given delicious nibbles alongside your prosecco! We had a lovely meal at Marina's and the MOST delicious pizza from the pizzeria in the park. The apartments are clean and spacious and the pool and gardens are simply stunning. All in all, a fantastic place to spend your holiday. We will definitely be returning!

Kate, Berlin

This was our fourth time staying at Caserma Carina and definitely won't be our last! With an easy and relatively short drive from Ancona airport these apartments have everything you need (and more!) for a fantastic holiday whether you choose to have a relaxing time around the pool overlooking beautiful surroundings or choose to explore the picturesque region. Dean, Lesley and Grace are the perfect hosts and nothing is ever too much trouble. They are full of knowledge on the area and host an enjoyable afternoon of wine tasting at the local vineyard, which I would highly recommend.

Carla, Amsterdam

We had a wonderful relaxing weeks stay at the Caserma Carina with our little baby. The set up is fantastic and very baby friendly with cot, high chair, baby baths and toys already there. Very peaceful and quiet. The honesty bar meant we got to sample the wonderful wines from the region without having to venture out although we did enjoy the wine tasting with Dean and would recommend it. We would definitely recommend staying here and would love to return again and be able to explore the beautiful region a little more. Dean, Lesley and Grace were wonderful hosts and have done a fantastic job.

Molly, Copenaghen

We spent a fantastic week at Caserma Carina. I had worried the 1 bedroom apartment with sofa bed wouldn't feel big enough for us...2 adults and 2 young children but I needn't have. It was very comfortable, modern and with everything we needed and more. A proper mattress on the sofa bed ensured good sleep. Lesley and Dean are attentive and friendly with great local knowledge. Every recommendation they gave for restaurants, beaches etc were spot on. The pool and grounds are immaculate. We didn't want to leave.

Kate, Manchester

We have had the pleasure in staying at Caserma Carina five times in total, with the 6th visit planned this year. There is always a warm welcome - Lesley and Dean are brilliant hosts and nothing is too much trouble. The apartments have everything you need for a relaxing holiday. The pool and grounds are beautiful and to sit on a warm Italian evening overlooking the Sibilini mountains with a chilled glass of wine is as near to heaven as you can get! If you are looking for a taste of the real Italy, this is the place to be.

What makes “Caserma Carina” a special place to stay? For us it is the sense of authentic human warmth, kindness and belonging and where we experienced honest generosity, authentic hospitality, pleasant and interesting conversation, virtuous quirkiness and easygoing personal attention offered unconditionally by Dean and Lesley (backed up by the bubbly Grace) - here the art of hospitality is practised with the kindness and good humour that SAWDAY’s advocate! This is a beautiful spot to base yourself to explore what Le Marche has to offer. However, it is also somewhere where you can spend hours just enjoying the peace and quiet and simple luxury of the place....You have everything you need (and more)in the apartments (including air conditioning, basic supplies on arrival and access to books and DVDs) and you also get added extras including advice from both Lesley and Dean on places to go and things to see. Perhaps more importantly access to Dean's "maxi fridge" full of local wine and beers for you to try. They are very very welcoming (I would include Marley the dog in this!)and will give you as much help or as little help as you want. The local town of Mogliano is very close by with excellent restaurants, supermarkets and a local market. Check out Zanzibar for the ice cream and the mobile vans for porchetta panini. Le Marche is full of beautiful hilltop towns and beaches and amazing local produce, Caserma Carina gives you the home from home (with probably a bit more luxury!)to explore this lovely region of Italy.
