This 17th-century farmhouse has been lovingly tended by the Cicchi family for 100 years. Everything you eat here is produced locally or on the farm – olive oil, wine, jams and preserves – and they look after a menagerie of animals as well as taking excellent care of their guests. Maria Elena is passionate about sharing her slice of the Marche region and can organise oil and wine tastings (in their ancient cellars), cookery courses, guided treks in the Sibillini Mountains and more. Or you can lounge around the enticing pool or read a book in the shady sweet-scented gardens. Inside mahogany armoires, old portraits and frescoed ceilings have been beautifully preserved and each elegant bedroom has a wrought iron bedstead, glass chandeliers, hand-embroidered curtains and a slip of a tiled en suite bathroom. Breakfasts, served on the terrace or dining room, are a glorious, mainly organic, affair of breads, fruit, cheeses, cakes and jams. Don’t miss supper either; it’s a hit with foodies. If you can tear yourself away there’s much to explore: medieval towns, thermal baths and the coast is only 30km.
