Borgo Tranquillo

Arcevia, Ancona

A ‘design resort’ for couples and families in a country where history and gastronomy prevail… but why drag yourself away from that pool?

5 places

Sleeping from 2 – 4

Wind your way up from the Adriatic at Ancona, to minimalist perfection perched on a hill. Architect Frank and Swiss wife Ariane have realised a dream – to embrace ‘la dolce vita’ on an immaculate estate with incomparable views. Past the patchwork farmland and rolling hills of the unspoilt Le Marche, you arrive to a cypress-lined drive. Harmony prevails in colour and form and your hosts are generous to a fault, happily sharing their piece of paradise. Here are mountain bikes, a sauna, a hammam, an infinity pool, fresh cakes, baskets of garden produce, a free bar. The sloping grounds are well-groomed, and dotted with olive trees, willows, lavender, Scotch broom. Seamlessly you shift into a lower gear. A former barn has become a poolside spa, with a sleek, sociable clubhouse upstairs – and the views! Discover the Renaissance in Urbino, opera in Macerata, gastronomy in Arcevia. Return to a secluded villa for four, or one of the apartments, discreet, airy and open-plan. There are travertine-top kitchens, neutral palettes, REN toiletries, luxurious linens… you will be seriously spoiled.
