The
Experience

Brother and sister team Luca and Bea run the family farm B&B with deep generosity and creativity, and clearly adore their childhood home. Artistic Luca’s paintings brighten Beatilla’s walls, Father still works in the fields and Mother’s cakes melt in your mouth in the timber-clad breakfast room – here a giant blackboard invites guests to leave a message, and they do. Good-sized bedrooms are original and colourful, with excellent mattresses on beds of recycled wood, distressed wardrobes, lots of red, yellow and purple: serious with a sense of fun. In contrast, the shower rooms are simply done in functional grey tiling. The two ground-floor rooms have private patios, but the pretty courtyard is for all to use. Treat yourself to lunch or dinner in the luminous art gallery-restaurant with Luca’s paintings on the walls and his eco-design bold-coloured tables and chairs filling the space. Rent a bike and ride to beautiful, historic Mantua (20 minutes) or further afield to Lake Garda – pass through charming villages, spend the day at the lake and ask Luca to arrange a lift back.

Reviews

What a discovery! Our brief stay at Agriturismo Beatilla in Lombardy was wonderfully comfortable, special and memorable. The Bornoffi family are genuine and generous hosts, with an eye to the environment, using eco-style and recycled materials in inventive ways. For example, their inventive approach to style can be seen in the presentation of the delicious buffet breakfast. We always use Alastair Sawday’s Special Places to Stay for our accommodation in Europe, so we were delighted to find out that we were Beatilla’s first ‘Sawday’ guests! There will be many more, after this top review!
