A small, but perfectly formed and friendly holiday village, draped around a medieval castle with panoramic views stretching over Lake Como and the mountains. And if you can’t be bothered to look after yourselves then you can go for a B&B option in any one of the several lovely houses and cottages. All share a tennis court, a huge games room (with table football), swimming pool, large lawn and heaps of outdoor space, so you won’t be bumping into other people much. The children may play football or rounders while you nod off in the shade of one of numerous trees, or sunbathe in peace beside your very own pool; you can also look over the 12th-century castle. Large or small parties will be happy here: breakfast is left for you – toast, jam, tea and coffee, or if you want the full buffet then its all on offer at the main house for an extra charge. Sleep well in pretty bedrooms with fresh painted walls, crisp linens, heavy curtains and 18th-century floral furnishings, bathrooms are spotless and functional. You can walk to restaurants (one lies at the foot of the castle) or hop in the car to beautiful Varenna.
Spoil yourself and enjoy an ample hearty breakfast here. Try the fresh farm eggs made to order. They are something else.
