Daniela’s creation is its own little world – the main house in canary yellow – perched high on a hill above the Lago di Alviano bird sanctuary. The setting is splendid, the atmosphere friendly and the whole place is run as sustainably as possible. Solar panels heat the water, the local stone swimming pool is salt-filtered, the sauna is infrared; bees, chickens, ducks and olives flourish organically and the restaurant specialises in good things locally-sourced. Whether you take the cosy wooden Lo Chalet, the spacious, beamed Il Casale or the smaller Il Casaletto the style everywhere is unpretentious, rustic and practical; airy, comfortable rooms (no TVs – hurrah!) with family furniture and good bathrooms. The views are great – on clear nights too when the starscape is award-winning. There’s plenty of space to be private and great communal areas too: a fairy tale children’s playhouse, gazebos, a yoga and meeting room and a huge party/picnic spot by the pool, with full kitchen. Perfect for groups of friends and families who want to simply unwind – with masses of scope for day trips to neighbouring Umbria and Tuscany.
