If you’re independent souls, fortunate enough to be planning more than a fleeting trip to Rome, this apartment is a great base, a ten-minute walk from the old quarter of Trastevere. The area, though residential, has a great buzz at night and the shops, bars and restaurants are a treat to discover. Signora Nicolini, once a specialist restorer, has furnished this sunny first-floor flat as if it were her own home. She has kept the original 19th-century red and black terrazzo floor and has added contemporary touches: a cream sofa, an all-white kitchen (no mircrowave or oven, but you won’t mind, with so many tempting restaurants on your doorstep), kilims and modern art. You have a large open-plan living/dining room with screened kitchen, a double and a twin bedroom, each with a white bathroom, and an extra sofabed. All is fresh and bright, and the big bedroom is very charming with its hand-quilted bedspread. Marta is a delight and does her best to ensure you go home with happy memories. Put your feet up after a long day, pour yourself a glass of wine… then set off to explore some more of this magical city.
