The
Experience

On the Lazio/Umbria border is a large family estate that produces its own wine and olive oil, and spread out around the expansive grounds are a cluster of villas. Two (Mary and Laurentia) are reached down a driveway with ancient trees standing sentry and when you mount the hill you’re rewarded by jaw-dropping views over undulating countryside, vineyards and distant villages. Both are squat, rectangular villas with a typical 30s colonial style, hugged by wide wooden vine-smothered porches, and nicely private. Inside there’s ample space for eight to spread out in the high-ceilinged, beamed living/dining rooms and separate well-equipped kitchens. If you can heave yourself away from the pool, tennis court and soccer pitch you can nip to quaint Magliano Sabino for supplies or a Michelin star meal. And you’re minutes from the motorway that leads to Mount Terminillo for summer hiking or winter skiing, mediaeval castles, historical abbeys and Roman archeological sites. Once you’ve tired yourself out head back for deep sleeps in roomy twin/doubles; most have en suites, all have views.

Reviews

We have been going to Agriturismo Santa Cristina for a number of years This year we rented Villa Laurentia. Like the other ones at Agriturismo Santa Cristina , it was spotless, quiet, spacious, sunny. We go there to rest and relax , spend lazy days by the pool , sit and watch the country, read . Then we use it as a base to visit what the Italian genius has provided in the region and in Rome It is a lovely place to go back to The housekeeper is both charming and efficient There are a few restaurants that do nothing good to your waist line , but who cares !

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Laurentia Orsolini Cencelli

  • The Estate is located 2.5 miles from the quaint town of Magliano Sabina, in the enchanting Sabina area. Thirty miles north-east of Rome and untouched by mass tourism, Sabina is still authentic and unspoilt.
  • Its landscape of gentle hills where agriculture is in perfect harmony with the surrounding nature, is scattered with Roman villas, medieval castles, churches and abbeys and many remains of Italy’s historic, cultural, architectonic and artistic past.
  • The Reatine Valley, with its Franciscan sanctuaries, Farfa Abbey, for centuries a witness to the power of the Roman Church, the archaeological sites and ancient Roman town of Trebula Mutuesca and Forum Novum are among the many attractions in Sabina.
  • Along pleasant country roads, you can easily reach breathtaking places still unknown by tourists. The motorway A1, instead, gives you an easy and quick access to some of the most important artistic sights of central Italy, such as Florence, Siena and Rome.
