It looks like a small hotel, it feels like a house-party. After running a successful hotel in Rome, Elena and daughter Ludovica, gracious and imaginative, came to this wild coastal area to bring the San Francesco back to life and welcome guests as friends. Dressed all over in shimmering white, set in a magical green garden with blue sky above and blue lake below, offering myriad services and activities, it’s just the place for a nature-filled holiday. There is room for everyone to relax in the lovely grounds beneath the towering eucalyptus trees. You can indulge in spa treatments or yoga, bicycle in the nature park, take a kayak from the private dock and buzz around the lake, or the shuttle to the beach for all sorts of board sports, then return to the delights of the restaurant. Several of the light-filled bedrooms have private terraces, all are furnished in good taste, there are flashes of colour among the white and a high level of comfort. For a blast of culture, try the Roman Villa Domiziano, the historic Garden of Ninfa, the Piana delle Orme museum for local farming and wartime history.
