The Experience

What a setting, on a cobbled, traffic-free street in the medieval heart of Castelvetro. It’s fabulous, and so are the Rossi brothers, who established the hotel and restaurant more than a decade ago. Six suites, themed to match their flowery names – Girasole, Margherita and more – have terracotta floor tiles, beams, antique furniture and views over historic rooftops or the basilica. Bathrooms are traditional and functional rather than up-to-the-minute. Andrea is the most courteous host and a knowledgeable sommelier, while Roberto brings his passion for cooking to the cellar restaurant, where breakfast includes homemade pastries and cakes as well as savoury dishes. If you opt for lunch or dinner, the focus is on fresh regional ingredients and recipes, sprinkled with inspiration from the brothers’ grandmother. Book Roberto for a cooking course, or Andrea to arrange a tasting of the area’s wines and salsiccia, a local sausage. Allow time for nearby festivals and sampling the best Lambrusco wines, walks through vineyards, horse riding or biking in the hills. Modena, Bologna and the Ferrari Museum are all within reach.

Reviews

A special place, with ancient charm. Run by people passionate about hospitality and good food who know how to welcome and pamper guests.

Castelvetro is a beautiful town. The hotel is a great location, the rooms are well furnished and spacious, the restaurant is superb and the food is amazing. Highly recommend!

We had a wonderful stay at Locanda del Fuedo. The locanda is located in a very pretty, ancient hilltop village. Our room was beautiful. Very clean and spacious with a lovely view over rooftops to the church and the hills. The food and wine were exquisite. As was the service. This experience was better than many Michelin starred restaurants we’ve visited. Perhaps the most special thing about the locanda was the warm welcome we received. We loved every moment of our two night stay and wished we could have stayed longer.

excellent menu - great wines - beautiful hill-top location - very nice rooms - easy parking

This is the second time I have stayed at this excellent hotel/restaurant.

Tony

A lovely hotel with gracious hosts and a excellent restaurant. It was my husbands birthday and they presented him with a gorgeous and delicious cake as a surprise to us all. We visited a Balsamic Vinegar production recommended by the owner that was a great experience. The view from our room was of village rooftops and the church tower.

Barbara, Annapolis

A delightful restaurant with rooms. Run by two brothers one doing 'front of house' the other being the chef. The bedroom was very comfortable, the food exceptional. The restaurant is situated in a very old building in a quaint hill top village. Our stay was a delightful experience.

Local points of interest from Andrea Rossi

  • Inside the castle, close to our Hotel, there is a producer of traditional balsamic Vinegar of Modena DOP. It is located inside the prison tower, you can visit and taste their two types of vinegar: aged or extra old.
  • The medieval Castle is surrounded by the vineyards of Grasparossa, there are numerous wineries producing this Lambrusco which takes its name from the red color of the leaves. It’s possible to visit the cellars and make beautiful photographs
  • We are 10 minutes away from the Ferrari Gallery, the museum where all the Ferrari trophies, the supercars and F1 racecars are kept. It’s even possible to try one of these race cars on the track, or even better along the old roads used by Drake.
  • The Luciano Pavarotti's house museum is just 15 minutes away. Inside you will have the feeling that this was his favourite home , where he has always lived. His costumes, his books and scores will tell you all about the great Modena opera singer.
  • The king of cheeses, his Majesty the Parmigiano Reggiano. You will be able to discover, visit and taste well-4 producers of Parmigiano Reggiano, all 4 the territory of Castelvetro.
  • The regional park of Roccamalatina stones is one of the best parks of our region. Apart from these iconic rock formations you can see a glimpse of nature that runs to the south the river Panaro.
