A comfortable, intimate country house with an ancient acetaia (vinegar cellar), a perfect wedding chapel and a rose garden you can visit, outstanding in spring and early summer. It sits just back from the main road (a slight hum) in its own vineyards with tall trees for shade and lovely views over a big lake surrounded by bamboo and reeds. The inside is traditional and homely with well-worn sofas and chairs, prints and paintings of rural scenes and French windows to the garden. Up stone stairs find big bedrooms with monogrammed pillows, plenty of seating and swish bathrooms with wide showers – the master has a tub and all have windows with views. The kitchen is small and functional but filled with light and with a large square table and fireplace – you’ll find all the basics in the cupboards and a bottle of local wine. Visit Imola for restaurants and shops, Ravenna for its world famous byzantine mosaics, Faenza with its ceramic workshop; Cervia is a stone’s throw away on the coast and the valley of Comacchio with a natural wildlife reserve just a bit further north.
