The halls are decked in Olive’s awards for B&B - just sample her superb breakfasts for proof of her mastery. Rooms are bright and welcoming

Rooms sleep 2 – 4

Kindness itself, Olive is formidably houseproud, her hall beaming with framed awards that bear witness to her devotion to her guests. Breakfast is a glorious demonstration of her mastery: just try rhubarb and strawberry compote with home-baked courgette and walnut bread for a taster – there’s masses more in the basket. It’s a feast served on the renowned Stephen Pearce crockery, decorated with fresh flowers. Her colour mixes are joyous and bright – regal red, cranberry cream, blue, mustard, burgundy and buttercup – and her spirit is personified in the quirky statues and water features that decorate the garden: it gurgles and bubbles at every turn. Olive’s standards shine forth inside, too: the sitting room is so indulgent in its cream sofas and gold candelabras that you feel bound to be on your best behaviour. No dust from the log fires: they’re electric! The all-seasons conservatory is a lovely room, and you’re encouraged to play the piano in the lounge. Colourful welcoming bedrooms, comfortable bathrooms and superb walks into those beckoning mountains.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Olive O’Gorman

  • After an evening dinner of Olive's renowned cooking and overnight in a comfy kingsize bed, wake and set off to visit the Rock of Cashel, Cahir Castle and the Swiss Cottage, Lismore Castle, Kilkenny and Kilkenny Castle.
  • Set in beautiful countryside close to the mountains or the coast where you drive along the spectacular Copper Coast from Dungarvan to Tramore, stopping off at seaside villages on the way.
  • Tramore is only 10 minutes' drive from Waterford which is the oldest Viking city in Ireland. Follow the Viking Triangle taking in the House of Waterford Crystal, the Bishop's Palace and Reginald's Tower.
  • Hillwalking is very popular at Glasha and there are maps and packed lunches available: flora, fauna, historical stones and circles are some of the surprises you'll chance upon along the way.
  • This is a great cycling region with challenging, scenic road routes. The Nire Valley Drop is a Mountani Biking Event based in Ballymacarbry.
  • There are also six 18 hole golf courses surrounding Glasha and Green Fees can be arranged. Fishing for brown trout is available in the Nire River which flows through Glasha's grounds. A ghillie available on request.
