Domaine du Revêtison

Chantonnay, Vendée

Superb farmhouse with ping pong, shared pool, babysitting. Head out for gorgeous beaches or cobbled Rochelle, return to your secluded garden

7 bedrooms

Sleeps 22

The Revêtison estate rests amid the green waves and sprawling forests of the Vendée bocage: remote, beautiful, silent. You may stay in La Longère, a low converted barn shot through with natural light and warm pastel shades. Country-comfortable furniture fits perfectly with the sitting room’s rustic sloping ceilings, patio doors and creamy sandstone. Original features intrigue – those stone niches were once chicken roosts – but tiled floors shine, cushions are plump and linen is top quality. Lunch outside – terrace and grassy garden are overlooked neither by the second gîte nor the chambre d’hôtes – or set up dinner at the long oak table. Lovely to laze: wallow in the shared heated pool, ping-pong in the games room, try your hand at pétanque and local ‘palets’ – great fun. French-English couple Corinne and Steve are on hand for babysitting, the occasional table d’hôte meal, for directions to wonderful cobbled La Rochelle or the Puy du Fou park, and know all the best lakes, forests, villages and castles to visit. And if you crave sun, sand and sea, the Vendée coast has some of France’s best beaches.

Highly recommend staying at Domaine de Revetison, we were made to feel so welcome by lovely Corinne and Steve. Corinne recommended places to visit, shared her wisdom and Steve took us for a spin in his classic car. Our children loved the pool, fed the chickens and stroked the cats. Our Gite was very spacious, quiet, spotless and we all had a relaxing time. The coast was roughly an hours drive. Well worth a stay.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Corinne & Steve Wilson

  • We are but 30mins from the world renowned theme park of 'Puy du Fou'! A must for all visitors who come to the Vendée. You will travel through time and be enthralled by all the shows! People who have been once, never fail to go back again!
  • Marais Poitevin, the 'Green Venice' a 35,000 hectare of labyrinth of tranquil duckweed-covered waterways, another one of the region's most entrancing features and the prettiest corner of the 'Poitou Marshes'. Another 30 mins from us. Take your picnic!
  • Domaine du Revêtison is situated in the Haut-Bocage. This region contains the Vendée's largest forest, highest village and from pre-Revolution days when the area was known as Bas-Poitou-its lovely former capital -Fontenay le Comte! Worth a visit!!!
  • Strategically situated in the middle of the Vendée, we are close to all interesting places to visit, the unspoilt villages of Bazoges en Pareds and Vouvant wait to be discovered, as do the vestiges of the Vendée's once important coal industry at Faymoreau.
  • Fancy a day on the coas? Sables D'Olonne, by far the most ritzy seaside resort in the Vendée. It offers a vast and gently-shelving beach of ultra manicured sand. On the other side of the same spit of land is a busy fishing port lined with good restaurants.
  • Now, you want to chill! Our heated swimming pool beckons you! Grab a sunlounger, soak up the tranquil atmosphere. Our poolhouse has a billiard table and table football! We also have a pingpong table and 'pétanque' if you need a bit of distraction!
