On Le Lude’s Grande Rue is a nobleman’s house built around 1650 in its own walled garden, sunny and peaceful; from many of the windows you can glimpse the Château. Simon and Susan pay huge attention to detail, love having guests, offer tea, cakes or wine on arrival, and give you one of five big comfortable bedrooms upstairs. All have immaculate linen, sparkling bathrooms and original button cushions made by Susan. There’s an illuminated dining terrace, a wonderful salon to come home to, and long, leisurely breakfasts to wake to. Wine caves and châteaux abound, including Bauge’s with its 17th-century apothecary.

Susan and Simon, were very welcoming the house has a wonderful atmosphere and our room was very cosy with a comfy bed and lovely towels. We had a delicious evening meal and breakfast and nothing was too much trouble for Susan and Simon, they even gave us some help when our friends car had a problem and needed to call out assistance. This is an absolute gem. Everything is right about 5 Grande Rue, although it can be tricky to find in the small maze of quiet streets. The room was spacious, clean, quiet, and the bathroom was spotless and modern. Simon and Susan give a great welcome. Dinner was provided by Susan, and was a delicious treat, as was the wine ! The bed was large and comfortable. Breakfast was a home-made delight. I wish that we had stayed longer. We will return - as soon as possible ! An oasis. David & Ailsa.

Perfect/beautiful/welcoming/comfortable beds/ nothing was too much trouble for Sue and Simon.

Drive through the gates, just of a main street in Le Lude and you're in a different world! A peaceful courtyard garden (with parking) and a beautifully renovated grand house await you. As does a warm welcome from Simon and Susan, just what you need after hours of driving. We loved the comfortable, elegant (yet cosy) rooms and liked the small touches that make a stay even more enjoyable. Superb breakfast and dinner, a wonderful nights sleep, great shower, great hosts - what more can you ask for? To stay longer than 1 night! You should if you possibly can.

Simon and Susan were perfect hosts. After a long drive we were greeted with nibbles and wine in their lovely garden. The room was large and very comfortable and we enjoyed a lovely evening meal. We would thoroughly recommend 5 Grande Rue if you are visiting the lovely chateau in the town or Le Mans or simply travelling to and from Caen or Le Havre ferry .

We stayed at 5 Grande Rue for one night whilst travelling through France. Our visit was absolutely faultless; We were welcomed by lovely hosts Simon and Susan with Wine, Beer & nibbles and relaxed in the courtyard before being presented with a delicious four course meal in the beautifully decorated dining room. The tasteful and quirky decor continues throughout the house including our wonderfully peaceful bedroom which I didn’t want to leave! In the morning we were given a very tasty and fulfilling breakfast. Overall a beautifully tranquil & elegant setting and we will definitely stay again.
