A grand arch leads to a traditional little manor house, so the salon and dining room are unexpected – a lively zebra painting, saffron yellow and black velvet seats, leopard print fabrics. It’s vibrant but still hugely comfortable, with Dorothée your helpful host (husband Xavier, teenage son, two gentle dogs and a cat complete the family). Two serene rooms lie up a hidden staircase under the sloping roof, in soft greys and touches of pink. The suite in a separate wing is great for families. It’s all perfectly placed for the Louvre-Lens or first world war sites on the Somme. Arras is even closer, 20 minutes away for meals out.
