Ardres Bridge Cottage

Bed & Breakfast

Readers keep taking time to write and tell us how much they adore this lovely place with its young, charming owners and country cosiness

2 rooms

Rooms sleep 2 – 3

You share the young and charming owners’ sitting room: long and spacious with a big fire and plenty of sofas; you breakfast round a farmhouse table, and dinner with wine is a sociable affair – this is authentic B&B for those who like to join in. You’re beside the canal among rolling agricultural plains, usefully close to Calais. The ground-floor bedroom gives onto the garden with its flowery borders, the other has its own little balcony overlooking the pond, where farmyard fowl frolic; the shower room is downstairs. Both are country cosy and comfortable with floral bed linen and wooden furniture; bathrooms are among the best.

Laurent and Alysson are the perfect hosts with their young daughters Lisa & Emmy and baby son Lucien. We opted for a meal 'en famille' on the Friday night with the other English guests staying that evening. Homemade pumpkin soup followed by a beautiful pork and honeyed carrot casserole, and chocolate mousse to finish. An excellent red Bordeaux to wash it down too! Laurent kindly provided a lift into town for dinner on Saturday as local taxis are somewhat scarce. We'll definitely return to enjoy the hospitality and cuisine :-)

Not easy to find but when we did the overnight stay was very enjoyable and relaxing. Great hosts and a musical breakfast was the surprise of the stay. We would recommend others to visit.

We chose Ardres Bridge Cottage for its proximity to le Shuttle. It was an idyllic rustic experience par excellence in every respect, with a budget bill to crown it! Laurent, Alysson and their delightful daughters Lisa and Emmy were charming hosts, the comfort was first class and the home-cooked evening meal with wine was truly delicious. Laurent and Lisa entertained us on piano and violin and both he and Alysson created stimulating and very enjoyable conversation in English. Laurent's honey from his own hives was the best we've ever tasted - we bought 3 jars! Thank you Blanquart Family xxxx

Laurent and Alysson were so hospitable and made us very welcome as soon as we arrived. The downstairs bedroom was very convenient for Mum's wheelchair. We enjoyed a delicious dinner with produce from the garden, and then a friendly piano and violin recital, before a comfortable and peaceful night - beds are great ! Kettle in the room for tea in the morning before a super French breakfast and most interesting chat with Laurent, all in English for our benefit.

From the moment that you arrive at this haven of tranquility, hosts Alysson and Laurent do everything they can to make you feel at home. The house is charming and the huge garden a delight, the bedroom was well equipped, including a real electric kettle, and beautifully furnished. We dined out (next time we will dine in the B&B) and on return were invited into the living room where Laurent anad his daughter played for us on Violin and Piano. Breakfast was excedllent, and Laurent was full of good tips about the area. This is a gem and very inexpensive, we will return.

This was our second visit to this happy home. Again, the welcome was huge, the food was delicious and the entertainment was sublime. Lisa's piano skills are really good and Laurent accompanied her on his violin whilst his younger daughter danced. Wonderful memories to cherish over the winter months. We'll be back next year.

Angus and I had the most wonderful happy musical family evening -Lisa played the piano most beautifully, Laurent- the violin, and Angus, my husband was persuaded to join in with his accordion. They live so close to Calais too, a great advantage.

We recommend this 100%. The welcome, the room, the dinner and the wonderful family environment. We will definitely return.

what an absolutely idyllic and peaceful place, we were warmly greeted by Laurent, our evening meal, cooked by Alyson, was delicious and the hospitality was probably be the best we have ever had, many thanks to Alyson, Laurent and their 2 delightful children, hopefully we will stay again at a future date
